Popular Post bows00 Posted December 20, 2012 Popular Post Posted December 20, 2012 Wow, I just saw a movie "Happy". And it moved me. The movie brings forth situations of people throughout the world - people who are struggling financially and I mean below poverty levels. And the level of happiness, in some situations and cultures, are greater than an average American and Japanese with all the wealth and living comforts. So how much wealth do you really need? The movie indicated the obvious, where there is a significant difference in the level of happiness between someone earning $5000/Yr to someone earning $50,000/Yr. And that is because at $5000/Yr, you won't have enough money to cover your basic needs - shelter, food, etc. But what was interesting, was that there is NO signifant increase in the level of happiness between people earning $50,000/yr to people earning $50,000,000/yr - which emphasizes that once you have enough to cover your essential needs, the excess wealth has very little bearing on your overall level of happiness... the studies indicating that finances would only account for 10% of a persons true level of happiness. It reminded me why I want to eventually live in the Philippines... it is all about the people, relationships and family. And yes, there are negatives associated with the PI lifestyle, but overall, I know I am always happier when I'm there. And really.. isn't that what it's all about? Being happy?
sonjack2847 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 . isn't that what it's all about? Being happy? My thoughts exactly I know people back in the UK who are unhappy because they are always chasing the money instead of enjoying what they have.
Bundy Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 It's a basic "trait" of the human being in western countries.........."The more you have, the more you want" Thank the bloke upstairs...........there are no jones's in the Philippines. Just another of my growing dislikes of my own country........there are far too many "greedy" people here.
Dave Hounddriver Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 there are no jones's in the Philippines. There are. It just takes a while for them to show their colours. When you live near them for a while you will see the foreign ones. 'Nuff said on that topic as some of them are quite friendly, if slightly snobbish.
