At 8 a.m. today, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was in the vicintiy of Mactan, Cebu (10.0°N, 123.9°E) and is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

These weather systems are expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms in Palawan, Visayas

and regions of Zamboanga Peninsula Northern Mindanao, ARMM and SOCCSKSARGEN which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures.

The next update will be incorporated in the public weather forecast at 5:00 p.m. today while the next advisory will be issued at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

MANILA -- Flashflood and landslides are threatening most parts of the Visayas and Mindanao due to the low pressure area (LPA) in Surigao City, reported Pagasa on Sunday.

Weather Forecaster Jori Lois said that as of 4 a.m.,

the LPA was spotted in the vicinity of Surigao City.

Loiz said there is still a possibility the weather disturbance will develop into a tropical cyclone if it gains strength while traversing the Sulu Sea.

He said the agency continues monitoring the LPA and once it intensifies into a tropical depression inside the country it will be named "Kiko" -– the first cyclone to affect the country this month and the 11th this year.

Due to the cloudiness of the LPA ,

he said the Visayas and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers

and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

He said that most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila, Central Luzon,

Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
