Once someone starts promoting a place the cost rises. I believe that Thailand was more reasonably priced at one time and I think it is less so now. Cambodia may have one thing going for it that the others can't match and that is the work permit visa, I believe you can own a business and stay long term for (if I remember correctly) $230 a year. You can live in just about any country cheaply but you have to find someplace that will allow you to live in a manner that comfortably suits you for what you want / can spend.
