MESSAGE FOR U.S. CITIZENS

U.S. Embassy, Manila, The Philippines

January 10, 2014

THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EMBASSY WARDEN SYSTEM AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO AMERICAN CITIZENS IN THE PHILIPPINES. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Absentee Voting Information for U.S. Citizens Abroad

The U.S. Embassy would like to remind U.S. citizens that now is the time to prepare for the 2014 elections.  All U.S. citizens should visit the web site for their state elections office to check on requirements regarding re-registering as an absentee voter and review any state-specific requirements related to voting.  Many states require that absentee voters re-register each year, and we advise U.S. citizens to get into the habit of completing a new Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) each January.

To start, go to www.FVAP.gov and click on the section for Overseas Citizen Voters.  You will be able to complete a new Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), print and sign the form then return it to your local election office in the United States. You should include your email address on the form so it's easier for your election officials to reach you if there is a problem. If your state delivers ballots by fax, be sure to include your fax number.

Now all U.S. citizens can receive their blank ballots electronically. Depending on the state in which you are eligible to vote, you may get your ballot by email, fax, or internet download.  If you request electronic delivery and include your email address or fax number, you’ll receive your blank ballot 45 days before general and mid-term elections and generally 30 days before special, primary, and run-off elections for federal offices. Most states now have voter registration verification websites, and many offer a means of tracking the status of your registration and ballot.

For specific information about voting from the Philippines, please go to http://manila.usembassy.gov/election2012page.html for more information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: States are no longer required to automatically send ballots to voters for an entire election cycle so everyone who wants to vote in U.S. elections from overseas should send in a new Federal Post Card Application in January of each year
