Talk to me about Vasectomy Reversal.  Poke fun or provide thoughts or give me some links. :nudie:

SITUATION:  Currently living in Florida, USA.  We are full-time RVing though so we are mobile if needed.  We live in Cebu City when in the Philippines.  Plan to spend 50/50 or so time in Phils / USA later on.  Looking for Vasectomy Reversal in EITHER USA or PHILS.

Cost is a factor, but success is the goal.  This is planning time.  Go time is 2-4 years from now.

Early results and information:  There is a 'low cost' specialist in South Carolina.  I have sent them a message for more info as their web site gives no indication of price.  http://www.carolinavasectomyreversal.com

https://www.uihealthcare.org/vasectomy-reversals-frequently-asked-questions/ <--- This place says it costs from $2000 to $12000 (US dollars) depending on the case and provider.  Quite a range.  I don't mind $2000 so much.

I have 12 tabs open now with information on USA Vasectomy Reversal options.   :1 (103):   Later I will search for Philippines options.  Sometimes you guys send me off in new directions that I did not expect so figured I would start this topic at the same time as I am researching.

It all depends on how it was done and how long ago .... mine is completely non reversible .... a section was taken out and the ends crushed and then tied back to the cord ..... thats why when you get one they tell you to be sure it is what you want ....

You mean crushing the end of the pipes?     It can't been the balls, because then you would be eunuck  :)

Did they say why it would be impossible to reverse?

Much harder transplants are done elsewhere in the body than replacing a short pipe, so it would be very odd if such would be impossible.

Not that I'm interested in getting a reversal but I was looking into it a while ago.

It seems that even if the surgery is successful, the ability to produce viable sperm

is reduced as time goes on. So up to five years on might be ok, ten years on slight

possibility, fifteen years on forget it.

I forget the real numbers or where I saw it but I'm sure if you google it you'll find it.

I think it really is a question of use it or lose it !

From what I read about the procedure, the reversal can be a success, but the sperm count might be so low that fertilization is not possible. The doctor would then recommend hormone therapy to increase the count. This is what can become expensive because both the procedure and medication is usually not covered by insurance.

By the way, my wife and I will start our new life as full-time RVers later this month. After one or two years, we may participate in motorhome exchange programs with Europeans, Australians and New Zealanders. Friends in the Philippines are already offering us their homes with helpers, car and driver if we would loan them the RV for a month.

Our first cross country trip includes Boca Raton to meet with a group engage in affordable eldercare similar to our Philippine project. They have facilities in Honduras, Ecuador and Columbia. We will also try to link up with Bruce in Hollywood, Florida before driving to Key West.

This is the best, most direct answer page I found.  I summarize as... The longer the time after the procedure to reversal the more likely that additional scars and other blockage have occurred.  So sooner the better but an experienced surgeon has a better chance to get all the plumbing working.  ALSO your own body may now have sperm antibodies and kill your own fellas.  That is not good.

EDIT: (added) The second site is http://health.howstuffworks.com/sexual-health/contraception/vasectomy-reversal.htm encouraging in that if says 15 years after the vasectomy the man still has a 3 of 4 chance at getting the connection working again.  "Someone who waits 15 years or more to reverse a vasectomy has about a 71 percent chance of rebuilding his vas deferens..."  It says getting the partner preggo is only 30% but that has to do with her fertility and the ability as a couple, not just the male side.

From the  first site....

How Well It Works

Chances of a successful vasectomy reversal decline over time. Reversals are more successful during the first 10 years after vasectomy.1

In general, vasectomy reversal:2

  • Leads to overall pregnancy rates of greater than 50%.
  • Has the greatest chance of success within 3 years of the vasectomy.
  • Leads to pregnancy only about 30% of the time if the reversal is done 10 years after vasectomy.

Risks

Risks of vasectomy reversal include:

  • Infection at the site of surgery.
  • Fluid buildup in the scrotum (hydrocele) that may require draining.
  • Injury to the arteries or nerves in the scrotum.

What To Think About

Before a vasectomy reversal is done, your doctor will want to confirm that you were fertile before your vasectomy.

You can have tests to see whether you have sperm antibodies in your semen before and after vasectomy reversal. If there are sperm antibodies in your semen after surgery, your partner is unlikely to become pregnant. In such a case, you may wish to try in vitro fertilization with intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

The redneck solution is to get a male donor from your family and a turkey baster. Not a joke. You want a baby, you want it to share your genes, does it really matter if they are 50% yours or is 25% enough? If you raise the child to adulthood, wouldn't they be 100% your kid? :tiphat:

The most important thing if using the turkey baster idea, is to maintain the temperature. So keep the baster at body heat

before and during use, and allow minimum time between ejaculation and insertion. Like between one room and the next.

Don't know about choosing a donor. Don't think I'd like to see my brother's or cousin's features on my child. Think I'd prefer

a donor I'll never see again. But that's just personal choice and neither here or there.

My only daughter is adopted and I couldn't wish for a better. She is just a lovely girl and I'm so proud of her.

We couldn't get together at the weekend so we had a picnic outside my place of work just a couple of hours ago.

Doesn't really matter where your child comes from, the bond begins as soon as you hold him/her.

It has been 25 years since I had the same done to me as Mike S had (I don't remember the crushing part, thank gawd!) And when I looked into a reversal last year, the doc said I had a5% or less chance of success. Sorry,!
