Medical Insurance When Travelling Back To The Usa

The topic about part-time expats got me thinking.  I could not risk being in the USA for an extended time without buying health insurance, so that precludes me being a part time expat.  My budget does not allow the high cost of US insurance and that is one of the main reasons I moved to PH.  Without insurance in the USA, one major medical emergency for you or your family and you are ruined.  Bye bye early retirement for me.  Hello McDonalds, "May I take your order sir?".

Which leads me to my questions.  These may have been covered but are not easy to search for.

1.  Will medical insurance purchased in PH, such as Blue Cross, cover you while visiting the USA for XX days?  If so, is the coverage good enough to cover the ridiculous costs that can be incurred in the USA?

2.  Is there travel insurance that can be purchased in PH, for a reasonable cost, that has adequate coverage for USA visits?

Thanks!

Some of the Blue Cross policies have full worldwide coverage, some cover only accidents and emergencies. That would be by reimbursement. I have one of the dollar plans but I chose the Travel Area Limitation discount so North America, Japan, China (including HK) are excluded. If I traveled to one of those places I would buy travel insurance for the trip. Their site spells out the various options pretty well.

If you stay in the USA too long (more than 35 days) you will lose the overseas exemption from Obamacare. Then you will have no choice but to enroll in that and it is not cheap. I am paying $560/month (BlueCross) for my 2 daughters in the US.
