For the man, it might be about risking his money and less likely about risking his life, but for the Filipina, she very well could be risking her life because of the many sickos and crazies out there. While many of us may have used similar type ads to find our ladies, I wonder how many people know about or have heard about some sicko that used some of these services for the wrong purpose? So are these sites helping or hurting the Philippines and the Filipinas who use them? Behind a painting, on closer scrutiny, they discovered 14 jars all in one row each containing a preserved head of a woman. There is a fifteenth jar which was empty but above it has a photo of Ludy with her name and address," Some excepts from the whole storyShow-up ToursOne- day CourtshipsBillion-Dollar industryBenefitsThese men look to Asian women as ideal wives because of their image as traditional, subservient and intellectually and sexually submissive."Women from the Philippines mostly seem to be very humble and do not feel as if the world lives for them and it

Abuses certainly do happen in the marriage agencies. However, there are equally gruesome stories of Filipino OFWs that are lied to, recruited under false pretenses, abused, taken advantage of, and killed.Where is the law banning OFW recruiting agencies? The govt. is willing to regulate OFW recruitment agencies and go after offenders after the fact because they need the money generated by deploying as many OFWs as possible. In the case of marriage agencies, the govt. doesn't profit so they just shut down the industry instead of regulating it and enforcing laws. Not only do they not have to bother to regulate an industry, they can thump their chests about how they are preventing poor, innocent, Filipinas from being victimized by unscrupulous business people and those nasty foreigners. For many of these women, marriage to a foreigner is one of the few ways they have to improve their lot in life. Its kind of sad to see one of the avenues of meeting foreigners being shut down because the govt. can't be bothered to regulate the industry and educate its citizens.

Internet dating sites are not "mail order bride" sites ....... on dating sites you only meet other people .... the out come is entirely up to you ...... and should be called introduction sites ........ mail order sites not only introduce you they also arrange for you to meet .... help you prepare (if not do it them selves) travel arrangements ... paperwork and so forth for you to get married ....... in the case of the Philippines you will be flown here and all paperwork provided for you to marry and married before you fly back to your home country ........ these are the ones that are illegal and should be as a lot of scamming and corruption goes on ...... like paying the upfront costs with no results or finding out that the girl or guy of your dreams is actually 70 instead of the 25 year old you were promised ....... and I'm sure you can add a lot more discrepancies to that scenario .......

Its really a moot point anyway. The marriage agencies are illegal yet flourish anyway. Didn't the story say there were only 3 cases being prosecuted and zero convictions under the law banning these agencies? As long as women here face a lifetime of poverty any avenue that increases their chances of bettering their lives will continue to do well no matter what the laws says. If the govt. wants to end the mail-order bride business they need to alleviate poverty at home. These women are not victims of marriage schemes, they are victims of decades of unabated poverty at home.

Mike, I think you hit the nail on the head and someone needs to distinguish the difference between the two. The introduction sites should not be illegal since they often help people to find their soul mates and no matter where people meet, there is always a chance things will get ugly. I can think of some such people who live in the Philippines and who only date the ones they meet while with feet on the ground and at least introduction sites give people a chance to feel out their possible mates before they even get to meet. Asking the right questions can save a lot of time and heart aches as many of us have found out for ourselves.
