insite Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Late last year there was talk of a changes to the rules and requirements on Balikbyan boxes. As I understand it this was never implemented and was to have been delayed until around March this year although I heard little further on this. Am looking for advise as to the current requirements. Huggybearman Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 (edited) We sent several boxes from the UK in August this year. There seems to be no implementation of the proposed new rules. We were not asked for anything other than a very brief description of the contents ie 'misc domestic household items' on the form. Certainly we were not asked to complete a detailed manifest. The boxes arrived as usual, about seven weeks after shipping. They had not been opened by customs. Tukaram (Tim) Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I do not know the facts - but I heard.... I heard that the OFWs complained enough about the changes that they scraped/postponed them. I just sent some boxes with no problem.
Jollygoodfellow Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Sending boxes is the same as it used to be and your shipper will tell you what you need.

GeoffH Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Speaking of Balikbayan boxes, can anyone recommend an Australian based shipper?

They have branches worldwide. Been using them for about five years now. Very reliable service.
Gary D Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 We tend to use different shipper depending on if the boxes are going to Luzon or the Islands. From our experience LBC works well to Luzon but not so well to the Islands and we use Pooten Forwarding (may be local to the UK) to the Islands, and Luzon when they have good offers.
