Jollygoodfellow Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Many places including Cebu city went into darkness around midnight. I think we were out for 4 or 5 hours. As far as I know no cause has been found yet. What about you? Blackout hits parts of Visayas CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES (3rd UPDATE) The entire Eastern Visayas, as well as Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Island, are affected by the hours-long power outage Blackout hit several areas in the Visayas group of islands before midnight Saturday, August 21, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced in a Facebook post. The NGCP said the unscheduled power interruption, which started at 11:56 pm Friday, affected parts of Cebu and the entire Bohol in Central Visayas, and Leyte and Samar in Eastern Visayas. However, a post by the Leyte Electric Cooperative Incorporated (LEYECO) said “the whole Region 8 is now experiencing blackout due to the damaged line of NGCP in Cebu.” Eastern Visayas is composed of six provinces: Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte. Aside from confirming the blackout in Cebu and Bohol, LEYECO also said the Negros Island was also affected. The Samar I Electric Cooperative Incorporated said in a Facebook announcement there was a “total shutdown in the entire islands of Samar and Leyte.” The Visayan Electric Company (VECO), in its own Facebook post, said their whole franchise area – which includes four cities and four municipalities in Cebu province – was affected. “We apologize for the inconvenience. The whole of the Visayan Electric Franchise is experiencing a total blackout,” the post said, adding that its systems operations team was coordinating with the NGCP. https://www.rappler.com/nation/blackout-hits-parts-visayas-august-20-2021
hk blues Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 We're in Western Visayas - no problems here. In fact, we've had relatively few over the past few months (touch wood)
graham59 Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 We had a 'scheduled power outage' from 7am to 9am this morning...up here in Pangasinan. A rare occurance, fortunately. The electric company were kind enough to announce it on their Facebook page, 23 minutes AFTER power had been restored.

Jollygoodfellow Posted August 22, 2021 Author Posted August 22, 2021 Blackout due to lightning hits Visayas provinces MANILA, Philippines — A widespread power outage caused by lightning hit parts of the Visayas before midnight yesterday. The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said the Cebu-Quiot-Colon line tripped, triggering blackouts in parts of Cebu, Leyte, Samar and Bohol. The NGCP said the first load was restored at about 12:52 a.m. while almost all feeders were energized by 5:48 a.m. The Visayan Electric Co. said its entire franchise area was affected by the blackout at midnight. Power was fully restored before 5 a.m. The Samar I Electric Cooperative Inc. said power was restored in its franchise area at around 5:41 a.m. The NGCP is still working on the restoration of loads associated with the Leyte V Electric Cooperative Inc. (Leyeco V). “NGCP is expediting the reenergization of its Isabel sub-station, which serves parts of Leyte under Leyeco V,” the agency said. The Department of Energy (DOE), which called the incident a “system failure,” asked the Energy Regulatory Commission to investigate the incident. “We are asking the NGCP, which is responsible for system operations, to provide immediate remedy to this system failure and explain to its customers the reason... and prevent this from happening again,” DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi said. https://www.philstar.com/nation/2021/08/22/2121702/blackout-due-lightning-hits-visayas-provinces
