They don’t answer phones there either.

I finally got through to the Sydney consulate and the short answer is “still no issuance of visas”, that I can use the visa on arrival when I enter which is good for 30 days.

‘Why do I get the impression that they don’t want to help?

What questions did you ask them?  

 

Embassy in Canberra is even less helpful, they don't answer the phones, ever.

I was trying to find out whether they would be issuing 9A visas after February 10th.

As mentioned before. Many people have contacted the BI here and hey say extend as usual.

Im sure they will be since they are now offering 90 day visas. But I would just show up here like we did for years and extend at will.
