American Airlines Launches Codeshare Partnership with Philippines Airlines (travelandleisure.com)

This is nice if you originate from one of these major stateside cities.

Philippine Airlines just joined American Airlines' ever-growing list of international partners, putting the Southeast Asian archipelago much closer in reach.

The new codeshare applies to American’s routes to Los Angeles from seven U.S. cities — Atlanta, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, and Washington, D.C. Then, travelers can continue their journey on Philippine Airlines’ twice-daily flights from Los Angeles to its main hub in Manila, allowing for increased connectivity on the 15.5-hour transpacific route, the airline announced this week.

In addition, the expanded agreement covers several routes on the Philippines’ flag carrier, including Tokyo to Manila and Cebu and Honolulu and Guam to Manila. Travelers on any of these new codeshare flights will have both airlines ticketed on the same itinerary and seamless baggage handling.

“We are excited to partner with Philippine Airlines, which will provide our customers seamless connections to Manila, the capital and economic hub of the region, and Cebu, the gateway to countless tropical islands with pristine beaches,” said Anmol Bhargava, vice president of Global Alliances and Partnerships for American Airlines, in a statement. “The Philippines is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, and we look forward to continuing to enhance our partnership with Philippine Airlines.”

Beyond the codeshare agreement, American and Philippine Airlines’ members won’t have the opportunity to earn or redeem reciprocal miles, the airline confirmed to Travel + Leisure.

The news comes roughly a month after American filed a third route to Tokyo from New York-JFK, adding onto Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles. If approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation, American plans to launch daily flights between the two cities — which would subsequently boost connectivity to Manila and Cebu via the new codeshare partnership.

American Airlines is a founding member of the Oneworld alliance, comprising 19 carriers worldwide. Outside these core airlines, American partners with a dozen non-alliance carriers such as Aer Lingus, Hawaiian Airlines, and now, Philippine Airlines.
