I want to rent a home in Bacolod, but can't decide whether to live in the city or outside in a barangay.

Could someone living in Bacolod give me some ideas.

Welcome Orlando.  I would suggest renting a hotel room for a few day in the city and explore the area.

Do you have any medical issue that would require frequent attention?  Then it would be better to locate in the city within easy access to a hospital and clinics.  What about food?  Do you want familiar products available in large supermarkets or are you comfortable using a wet market?  Any preferences regarding entertainment?  I heard that Bacolod offers good Wi-Fi within the city limits, but not out in the countryside.  Likewise, fewer bars and restaurants outside of the city center.

As they say, horses for courses so what suits one person may not suit another.  You'd need to detail what your negotiables and non-negotiables are and then take it from there. Also, It's not really a case of city or rural either (and Barangay's exist in cities as well) - semi-rural, outskirts of city etc etc are often good compromises offering almost the best of both worlds with certain caveats.

Cheers, it sounds like a good plan.
