I like it - it has been developing at pace over that time and is now well-served for shopping with several reasonable-sized malls, reasonable medical care etc. It doesn't have a vibrant ex-pat community though, if that's something you're looking for. It's not the sleepy place it used to be. I'm not sure about rental costs but I'd hazard a guess it's a bit cheaper than Manila or Cebu. My SIL was in a studio apartment in a new development with gym, pool etc etc and was paying 10k a month - that was a couple of years ago so maybe 15k-20k for a 1-bedroom place in such a development. I'm a bit further out and you'd get a 3-4 bedroom house for that amount.
