& in Manila too http://www.philstar....ubCategoryId=652 commit suicide in Manila(The Philippine Star) Updated February 28, 2010 12:00 AMMANILA, Philippines - Two people allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Manila over two successive days, police said yesterday. Police said the body of 20-year-old Jeffrey Carlo Hieras, a second year college student of Adamson University, was found suspended by a nylon cord near the stairs of his house in Sta. Mesa. Hieras mother, Marilyn, told police her son was agonizing over his failing grades. However, police said Hieras did not state in his suicide note the reason for ending his life, except his wish that his wake be held in Batangas and he be buried near his grandfathers grave. Meanwhile, the body of Mary Joy Martinez, 25, was discovered by her husband, Francis, in a sitting position with an abaca rope looped around her neck inside their room in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday morning. Francis managed to bring his wife to the Ospital ng Sampaloc but she died while being treated. Francis told police that he and his wife had a petty quarrel the night before over his insistence to spend P25 to watch a Korean telenovela at a nearby computer shop. His wife refused, telling him that the money is needed for their small halo-halo business, resulting in a verbal altercation. Both suicides are still undergoing investigation pending the release of autopsy results.

Sometimes I forget just how poor a lot of people are in the Philippines, and then something like this jars me back to reality. Arguing and suicide over 25 pesos. Its just a damn shame.

With the poverty level at 35 million people, many more suicides will follow or some will just die from starvation or some type of a filth disease!
