Warning If You Use Peer To Peer Networks

Here is an unusual story that I thought was worth sharing to help protect our members. This story shows how someone can infect your computer by sharing music with malicious computer codes embedded or on other peer to peer networks and then take control of your computer and even turn on your webcam. Do any of you share music? I never have but I wonder how popular it might be? Be careful with who you let access your computer. Federal investigators contend that Mijangos found victims on peer-to-peer networks, in which several computer users share files and communication pathways. In some cases he allegedly used the nickname "guicho," which agents found printed on T-shirts at his home.  According to an affidavit, Mijangos sent out files disguised as popular songs that contained malicious computer code. The malware infected the victims' computers and was passed to their friends' and relatives' machines in the form of infected instant messages, authorities said.  "Once he had control of a computer, Mijangos searched for sexually explicit or intimate images and videos of women, typically young women and girls in various states of undress or engaged in sexual acts with their partners," according to the statement.  He also hacked e-mail accounts and, posing as some victims' boyfriends, asked them to make pornographic videos, authorities said.  Occasionally, Mijangos was able to remotely turn on some victims' webcams to catch them in "intimate situations," the US attorney's statement said.Calif man accused of extortion thru hacking

i use p2p personally i never had too much worries about it or had any problems like that , if im downloading a song i will test it while its downloading to see if its a actual song ! but as people have told me in the past thats why you need a good anti virus program i personally use avira antivir i have had virus's in the past and that program has totally wiped them out and the best part its a free program i highly recomend it too all members , i dont like mcafee or nortons they seem to slow down a computer and they take allot of resorces in the background to run , but as for p2p just get a good anti virus and happy downloading :)OldUgly&Cranky :th_noproblem:

Also using a good network in P2P matters.. I use several restricted sites (they have no access to general public and don't increase membership lists). If your caught with virused stuff in there your account will be banned.
