Skip Cebu unless it's for the many expats...Davao City is a much better place to live and visit. Really not that close in terms of how a city here can be run...correctly. Controlled wildness...and it's nice rubbing elbows with locals who have some dough and run things. My next door neighbor is a member of the On Any Sunday Riders club here, and the now vice mayor and his daughter, the now mayor rides with them. Spent a great news year drinking with many of club members over his place and they asked me to join up...only problem, no more bike. BUT...they do have plenty of big bikes, some for sale, the vice mayor has over 20...and the connections to get any type you want, so I do believe I might be getting another BMW RT. :AddEmoticons04230:Also...a nice older Gold Wing, 1500cc for sale by the club president....hmmmm. Anyway...I hope a lot of you members will get a chance to visit me out here in Davao City....especially before I head back to the states for 2 months in April for a visit to New York and Arizona. I have an extra air con room in a western type house, and anybody is welcome to stay.

Sounds like a nice place to live, I will have to look it over when we get there but it would have been sometime toward the end of April when we would have visited you after visiting my wifes family, so we may have to skip that visit. SugarwareZ-034.gif Hope to see you in Cebu unless we change our plans. Hmmmm riding with the mayor and the other upper crust could be fun, I might have to think about living there, nah I am too low class. biggrin.gif

I was hanging with the mayor of the small town we stay in a week ago, and he said he's in a motorcycle club with the mayor of Tacloban, a nephew or something of Imelda Marcos. It sounds like as long as you got a bike you can join. It seems crazy to have that kind of access to that kind of upper crust people. But he spoke of it so matter of factly, as long as your bike is powerful enough.

Hey shipmate,It's nice to finally settle down at your new home in Ecoland. Google Earth shows some nice open and scenic rides in that area. And with a group of well known riders (former mayor and new mayor, father and daughter respectively) and her armed escorts, you could be one of the "untouchables", whether you like it or not. One of these days my friend, Judy and I would love to visit you.Respectfully -- Jake

Thank you "Inspector" - interesting comments on a Cebu alternative. Davao City continues to receive positive comments and your accommodation offer is very generous by way of introductory visit 867.gif

The neighbor, Dandy is his name (no comment) has two bikes. A BMW GS combo off road/on road (a bike I am considering getting for the conditions in the Philippines) and a crotch rocket Honda...1000cc's of car alarm causing fury...something he demonstrated on new years at midnight.:bash:Yeah, I tried keeping up with the big bikes while in Cebu riding with the Outsiders in Negros...and I had a 600cc renter with a passenger...could barely keep up. :89:One thing about Cebu...the riding absolutely sucks. It's one road from Bogo to Moalboal (sp?)....with a LOT of trikes, pollution and bad roads along the way, and huge traffic in the city. While it aint like a western highway system by a long shot, Davao City is so vast and the roads a hell of a lot better...with a lot more then Bogo to Moalboal and a road to Toledo.Luzon had some nice roads/highway riding...but much more traffic.

Yeah, the only thing Cebu has going for it are more expats to get drunk with, better "western" places to eat and shop, and more bar girls.....the last why you get the more expats IMHO. Davao City, from what my observations are, it is a more affluent city, and more "cultured"...as in, more conservative, catholic abiding and proud (cab drivers actually yell at the occasional window tapping give me money folk). You do not see foreigners age 65 walking in malls with 18 year olds that look 15, and many/most actually speak fluent english, and understand western humor. We would love to have you stay anytime, as we would anybody on this forum, except Lee, unless he subjected himself to my personal TSA type pat down and full body cavity search....
