Philippines searches for boat with 5 Americans MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine coast guard says it is searching for a sailboat with five Americans that has been reported missing en route from the Pacific island of Guam.Coast guard chief Adm. Wilfredo Tamayo said the 38-foot (11-meter) catamaran named The Pineapple left Jan. 6 for Cebu Island in the central Philippines.Tamayo said the U.S. Coast Guard requested a search and rescue operation although it is not clear if the sailboat had reached Philippine waters.Coast guard spokesman Cmdr. I'm sorry to say that the skipper and passengers of that 38' catamaran failed to see the weather pattern during this time of year. It was piss poor planning, like diving without first checking if there is water in the pool. I certainly hope they are found alive in those treacherous waters.Respectfully -- Jake

and they might be prime targets for pirates as well, if the weather did not get them first. I hope they will be found to be OK.

as-if.gif Just being in the vicinity of, let alone en-route from Guam is scary enough! I've visited Guam numerous times and the weather around there is pretty unpredictable with the worst hurricane winds one can ever experience within any given day! th_thholysheep.gifAnd the sharks, lots and lots of them!

OK, that's good news! But I wonder why they were unable to contact anyone during their emergency. Even with enginetrouble, the charge on the battery should have been enough to maintain power for their radios to call out a mayday. Ormaybe they did call out, but the Philippine Coast Guard (a serious joke) finally responded when it was nice and sunny.Jake
