WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A town of Poughkeepsie man was found guilty by a Westchester County Court jury on Monday of felony promoting prostitution.

Douglas Allen, 69, of 15 Janet Drive, faces up to 2 1/3 to seven years in state prison when sentenced in October.

Allen owns and operates Big Apple Oriental Tours, which offers tours of Southeast Asia, principally the Philippines and Thailand. He operated a website, baotours.com, which was monitored by an undercover investigator in the office of Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

An investigator contacted Allen by email indicating he wanted to use the company’s services to go overseas to have sex for money.

In October and November 2010, the undercover agent met with Allen a number of times and made payments for the trip totalling $2,500. Allen outlined the itinerary, including air transportation from New York City to Hong Kong and Manila, Philippines.

The trip would continue with a guide/escort to Angeles City, three hours north of Manila, known for its strip clubs and go-go bars where a guide was to help him meet women whom he could pay for sex.

On Dec. 3, 2010, Allen was arrested by Westchester investigators and with the assistance of state police, a search warrant was executed at his residence.

Wow.  When I think of all the US tour operators organizing tours to Reno, (where sex used to be legal just outside the city limits),  I wonder why they pick on this guy?  Taking the money outside the country maybe?

I did not see anything about any tour reservation refunds! Does anyone know how I can.... scratch that... how a customer can, any customer, you know John Q. Public... oops, maybe not the name John then, but really.... how do we, damn, how do customers get their money back? :hystery:

In reality I fail to see the issue. Nothing mentioned about under age sex and the trip was to an area known for sex workers and bars.

Following this angle, if a guy who had of been to AC and was happy about the results and was telling some friends about it, and they wanted to go but had cash only, no credit card to book a flight and 'this guy' took the cash and used his CC to book the trip... well is this a crime? :th_unfair:

It's More Fun in the US of A ....

He is not being charged with a crime in the Philippines, he is charged for breaking the US laws. And if he had of been caught in the Philippines it would come down to human trafficking as any sort of meet a filipina, dating service etc is against the Philippines laws.

The strange part about it all, the story on their website says they have been through the courts before but I guess this time with the setup they have evidence.

Norman Barabash is no longer an owner of BAO Tours

Norman Barabash has retired. Now that he has cleared his good name in Supreme Court of New York
State he has  dropped any and all ties to Big Apple Oriental Tours by dissolving the partnership.

Big Apple Oriental Tours is  now the sole responsibility of Douglas Allen who was also cleared of any
and all wrong doing after a six year battle with the State of New York. The Courts found that we were

I figured most of these services would have died with the proliferation of the internet and all the free information online.

They have, this is an old case; they set him up for this current one in 2010 after he had been found not guilty in 3 other jurisdictions. They finally got him and he'll probably spend the last few years of his life in prison. I wonder how much money these investigations and prosecutions cost the taxpayers. I guess these public servants have nothing better to do with our money.
