brock Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 My wife Nesa has just had a wisdom tooth pulled at a cost of over 6000p. That seems expensive, I don't think it would cost that much in England. Does this cost seem right ?.
Tukaram (Tim) Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I have not used a dentist here yet so I can't be sure. But from what i have read and talked to people it seems depending on front teeth/molars the price varies from p300-p1,000. I need to get off my lazy butt and find a good dentist I need about 20 broken teeth pulled and get dentures.... :(

Forum Support Mike J Posted August 30, 2013 Forum Support Posted August 30, 2013 Most dentists here (Washington State) will no longer pull wisdom teeth. You have to go to an oral surgeon. Cost runs about $1200 - 1500 depending on number of teeth and if impacted.
johnb Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 (edited) Hi Brock, I have had a few extractions in the Philippines, but never paid more than 1,000p for any one extraction, however just like any medical service, costs differ and a wisdom tooth as I understand things can be more complicated than a standard extraction, plus depending on the shape and depth of the roots it can become more demanding, where as i do consider 6,000p a lot for an extraction if your wife came out of it healthy and without infection consider it as money well spent. all the dentist clinics I've used will normally give you an average cost for a basic extraction, so perhaps next time have your wife get an estimate first which will allow her to shop around, I would add I dont use one of the many up market private dentisits, just one thats based in a shopping Mall, they have great facilities and as a guy that hates visiting a dentist, they have always been great for me. brock Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 A normal extraction is 400p This was an impacted wisdom tooth, Just seemed a big jump from 400p to 6000p thats all. whatever it cost it was worth it so Nesa didn't have any pain.
Bruce Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Just seemed a big jump from 400p to 6000p thats all. Perhaps you forgot the Kano Tax? :th_unfair:
i am bob Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I think the magic words (besides Kano) were "Impacted Wisdom Tooth". That is usually fodder for a dentist to raise his rates "very" accordingly.
Call me bubba Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 are you happy w/the service provided? did the dentist explain the procedure? then it is worth the cost. it has been said that some dentist/medical providers CHARGE a "kano tax" but allow me to input this. when they do this, sometimes its to "Subsidize" the ones who cant afford to pay or to allow them to do "other services" that they provide to the "poor" if your to seek additional medical/dental services. like another poster stated, get quotes that can help to know what the "market rates "are. thats all. i have spoken
