I just got out of the hospital after spending 2 days in ICU and 4 days in a private room ..... My advise to anyone coming here to live is if you think you can come here to live on $ 1,000 per month with no back up or savings you might just be sadly mistaken .... one time sick can wipe out your savings entirely if not substantial funds are available ..... Phil-health paid crap for me ..... my senior discount paid much more than Phil-Health ..... but more on that later .... Popular Post Mike S Posted September 23, 2015 Author Popular Post Posted September 23, 2015 Well feeling a bit better so I'll try and post some of my experiences over several posts First off thank you for your concerns and well wishes ..... as of now I'm doing a lot better than when I went to the hospital (7 day Adventist Hospital) .... why there ... because back when I worked in healthcare we did some training at several of their hospitals in Florida and I was impressed with their care and attitude (but not their food ... :hystery: ) .... Anyway I felt really dizzy at about 2am last Sunday night .... in fact it woke me up .... so off we go ... no chest pains or discomfort ... got to the ER and my BP was 165/102 ..... so they started working on me when my heart rate dropped to 30bpm .... I have a low heart rate anyway but not that low .... after getting me stabilized they sent me to ICU to a ward there (no private rooms available) and put me on a monitor ..... what a night Got no sleep at all as it was so noisy .... they had to intubate and almost lost the woman on the other side of the curtain from me ..... my bed was broken and I couldn't raise up my head ..... plus meds ever few minutes or so it seemed .... J slept in the watchers room outside ICU and could only visit 3 times a day during meals so she could feed me .... my god I never had so much blood drawn felt like a pi cushion and I have terrible veins a couple of times they gave up and came back later .... my wrists are still all black and blue ..... The next afternoon they wanted to move me to another bed in the ward as they had someone coming in that they didn't want me next to .... well I had had enough ... no sleep no rest and I was in there to help stabilize my condition ..... plus the damn monitor kept beeping day and night .... so I told them I wanted to go to a private room .... they said I could if I signed waver and agreed to use a monitor and hire a private nurse ..... well to get out of ICU and get some rest I would have agreed to anything Now the nurses and staff in ICU were just great and kept apologizing for all the noise but they couldn't help it .... and to make a long story short (getting tired) .... we got to the private room that evening and J could stay and sleep in the room with me .... Anyway I found out my thyroid was totally out of whack .... normal is something like 5 and mine was 22 ..... both the Cardiologist and the thyroid specialist plus my being over weight is what caused most of my problems ..... now my BP is like 125/84 ..... but I'm also a type 2 diabetic now but can be treated with meds it is currently 126 ..... so other than the fact I'm on a low-sodium ... low-fat and no-salt diabetic diet all is well with the world ..... at least I'm still alive ..... :thumbsup: More to follow ..... :cheersty: 6 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
