I have paid my insurance for my car but the road tax whatever it is called is now due, a couple of questions please folks:-

Does the LTO send me a letter telling me when it is due?

Is there any grace period that I can drive if I have not paid in time.

Any advice appreciated on what the procedure is here in the Philippines.

Cheers

No, they don't send letters.  It is due in a certain month according to the last number of your plate.  Look for a chart on the LTO website.  I don't think there is a grace period but the late fees are very small.

For a reasonable fee the place where you get the "smoke test" done will often take care of the registration for you.  Saves the time standing in line.

I did not either, but isn't it part of the registration fee?

Looking at my registration OR cost breakdown includes items; Cost of stickers, legal research fund, MVUC, Transfer fee, TXfee, Comp fee.  I guess road tax is bundled in MVUC.

The tax must be for the cost of a crew to go around and create pot holes in the roads!

I didn't know what else to call it, as I asked my GF and all her relations and all I got was the dumb look, same as when I asked them how do I go about getting the car re-registered all I got was the dumb look, and how about the exhaust emission test, when I asked about is it for old cars, new cars, cars of a certain age, the dumb look in response.

Now all I have to do is get someone to fix the wall where I bang my head all the time, because I have worked out when they don't know the answer to something very simple, they just give the dumb look.
