The names were an Urban Myth, of course Terry.  It was Tom the Cabin Boy and Seaman Stains simply didn't exist although Master Mates was claimed to be Master Bates.  The writer successfully sued a couple of UK newspapers for printing these names as fact.

Fun while it lasted though

Didn't realise George Harrison had so much talent

It's interesting to note though, Terry, that fake news is nothing new.  Some people I know still insist the made up names are real despite them having watched the programme avidly.

was a Submariner as well. I don't recall suicide being a major concern in the Sub Force when I was in. I don't know how they would even try to handle a Covid breakout on a sub.

Was managing a large very tall hotel in HK. We received a request for reservation from Australian navy for about 25 rooms, all guys.

The person making the reservation specifically requested all the rooms to be on the VERY top floor of the property. WE asked why... reply was " these are submariners.. These guys been 10,000 feet under the sea for past 3 months.. they deserve THE BEST VIEW above ground , for their stay in HK".

No HK in my lucid moments I clearly remember watching captain Pugwash and listening to the sex pistols

Perhaps this is where my confusion comes from 🤔
