PoorSucker Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Okay, help me out with this. I'm a 53-year-old Swedish / Finnish man on my way to Metro Manila for work. I have lived in Thailand for 14 years and know the process in Thailand. As for the Philippines, I need your help and will appreciate any advice. As I understand the proper visa for me is called 9(g). Is this applied for at immigration in the Philippines or at a consulate abroad? What paper work is needed for this visa? How long is the visa valid for and how do you apply for extension of stay? Is work permit applied for separate? Who is in charge for the papers, in Thailand it's three different institutions, MFA issues visa, immigration issues extension, DoL issues work permit. I know the current situation will not allow me to enter, but I like to start the process with the paperwork.
Guy F. Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Do you already have an employer arranged? It's very difficult for a foreigner to work legally in the Philippines. It's nearly impossible to find a job that pays what a Westerner would consider to be a decent wage.

So, should I just let the employer handle it? How do I get the visa in my passport?

graham59 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Yes, I believe your future employer should be handling this. No harm in going into your local Philippines Embassy/Consulate for guidance though. The Chinese must be experts at it... the hundreds still coming into the country to work in the online casinos, etc.

A friend started a new job a week or so ago. His employer arranged everything and from my understanding this is how it was done in previous employment here. 1

He has lived here for I think over 10 years. His last job as a trainer in a call center was lost due to staff decreases. He has had previous jobs in management in call centers here and thats what his new job is as manager of a company.
Freebie Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 When i got my 9g I arrived as tourist. My company handed over all the docs ( called " requirements" here ) to our lawyers and they processed everything.I think visa was stamped in passpor a few weeks later after doing medical etc. This was a few years back though.
