OnMyWay Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 My neighbor gave me a short translation of what this video is about . Perhaps somebody fluent can provide more? Who is Smuggs? Is that Marcos wife? The short of it, Paulino paid 300M not to be booted out by the new government, but the Tan pay out to the FL, aka Lizza Smuggs was probably a lot more hefty, hence the resignation and the new guy coming in, who she wants to sit as head, coz they can do a lot in their favour! That’s the gist basically…corruption is alive, well and kicking in full force and on over drive…this lady says, she realises corruption is everywhere, but maybe she’s asking that, let it not be sooo blatant and over excessive! as that lady said, technically based on the republic act, Paulino should sit for 6 years and can’t be booted out, but she’s said, Smuggs really wanted her guy in, and she found a way! Despite Paulino giving a 300M payout to stay! She calls the president , the kitten from the north and says that basically what she wants, he can’t say no to Smuggs! She is running the show, I guess!
Possum Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Corruption has been alive and well since I have known the Philippines beginning back in Ferdinand Marcos time. Study has shown that it existed WAY before that during the Spanish times. Seems odd to me that original Spanish colonies everywhere come with built in corruption and Catholicism, not that the two are related of course. The people power revolution of EDSA and the decentralization of government at least allowed the corruption to be more democratic as it now exists all the way down to the barangays and puroks. The USA exploited the corruption for years too. A good book that gives some context is the Making of the Modern Philippines by Philippe Bowring. I think it's available on Kindle now. I know some of his sources from years back and they speak candidly, of course by then they had their pensions. 1
Possum Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Another excellent book and very well researched is The Marcos Dynasty by Stirling Seagrave. His sources were excellent, perhaps better than Bowring's. Lot of more recent history and names in the book that are recognized today and still pulling the strings. 1
Jollygoodfellow Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Everything we see on Youtube and Facebook is true, nothing but the truth. That is the only source I trust plus our friend TikTok. Really, here we are chatting about a video that none of us have a clue what the person said but we have a rough translation from someone who may or may not understood the story or translated it wrong. So what credentials does the Vlogger have and what source of facts?

Possum Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Recent article on back taxes. They have asked for amnesty. Pretty bold for one of the richest guys in the Philippines. 5 Villar companies top delinquent taxpayers in Las Piñas, owe city more than P200M Documents show that companies owned and managed by the Villar family owe Las Piñas more than P200 million in accumulated taxes and penalties. These companies are now asking for tax amnesties amounting to at least P71.6 million. Forum Support Popular Post Tommy T. Posted May 8, 2023 Forum Support Popular Post Posted May 8, 2023 I agree that corruption is rampant here. My dog requires a medication to treat a temporary condition. The only way I can get him to accept the two tablets twice daily is by giving him outright bribes.... He takes the tablets, I sort of enforce that he swallows them, then he gets a bacon flavoured treat. ... Works every time! So, when I call him over to me....he happily trots over, sits down and waits for his med then his treat....
fillipino_wannabe Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 I see extreme corruption here all the time, In my Wifes city most of the government offices would happily cost the government millions of pesos in return for a bit of merienda. But in fairness to the Tan guy he seemed to do a good job in Pandan and he's been promoting/ friends with BBM since before he ran for vice president so it's not like he came out of nowhere and just paid to be the new SBMA boss.
