Jollygoodfellow Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Just a heads-up to those who may have not sorted out their visa woes. BI AGENTS NAB 5 ILLEGAL ALIENS BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported the arrest of five illegal aliens who are now facing deportation for violating the country’s immigration laws. Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the foreigners – an American, two Indians, a Pakistani and a Vietnamese, were arrested in separate operations conducted by agents of the BI Intelligence Division. “This is just the start of an intensified campaign by our Bureau to flush out illegal aliens, including those who are staying in far-flung areas of the country,” Tansingco said in a statement. He urged the public to support the BI’s campaign by reporting the presence of any illegal alien in their neighborhood and communities so they could be arrested, expelled and barred from re-entering the country. “Foreigners who wantonly violate our immigration laws do not deserve the privilege to stay in our country. They should be deported and blacklisted for being undesirable aliens,” the BI chief added. BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. reported that last April 28, agents arrested in Baguio City an American national identified as Victor Florendo Carpiso, 63, who was found to have overstayed in the country. Investigation revealed that Carpiso never left the country since 2013 when he last arrived here as a tourist. Last May 2, BI operatives arrested in Calbayog City, Samar an Indian national named Tejinder Singh, 41, for illegally acquiring a residence visa in the country. Singh allegedly managed to secure a working visa from the BI through fraud and misrepresentation as the company that purportedly employs him is fictitious. On May 4, Regional intelligence agents arrested Pakistani Saleem Khan, 29, in Agoo, La Union for overstaying. Also arrested for overstaying the following day, was Indian national Prakash Raj Ramara, 26, in Brgy. Sagpon, in Legazpi, Albay. Manahan also reported the recent arrest of a Vietnamese national named Tran Van Thung, 26, who was caught selling retail goods at a UV Express Terminal near the SM North mall. The Vietnamese will be deported for violating the conditions of his stay as a tourist as he had engaged in gainful activity here without the required permit and visa. All five aliens are facing deportation charges with the BI. https://www.facebook.com/officialbureauofimmigration/posts/pfbid0bYArgn9g66Z7vy79wUsJ55nt9c6sefuGZfBPh4nMkKiziWd14PCkPrDjA4ethuWRl 4
Dave Hounddriver Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 This kind of thing makes great headlines for the BI but there's no money in it. The overstayers have no money to pay bribes or pay for their own deportation so it just adds to the BI budget every time they pick one up. But as usual, if they can get people to rat on other people, then they have to do something about it. And as to that "American" they are gonna deport. It may help to read this 4 year old story. Perhaps a former Filipino who went to the US and then came back? Quote Grave coercion lands man in jail BAGUIO CITY – A man was nabbed here Wednesday for three counts of grave coercion. Nabbed at No. 115 City Camp Proper was Victor Florendo Carpiso by virtue of warrant issued by Judge Leody Opolinto of MTCC, Branch. 3, Baguio City. Bail was set at P12,000 for each count. http://northphiltimes.blogspot.com/2019/10/police-roundup_18.html

To me that sounds good, that they do their jobs without the suspicion that they are after a bribe 👍 Making money is not the job of BI, but make sure that the immigration laws are followed. 3

Things have changed and the BI make many arrests, you only have to follow their FB page to read about it. The BI never pays to deport someone for overstaying, they stay locked up until they arrange back payment of fees and buy their own ticket out. Ask deceased Petrea.

I think you would be surprised at how many there are. Often they come here looking for advice for overstaying many years.

Then there are many who are hiding from one thing or another. Or the ones who just think they can get away with it and not pay, remember that vlogger not long back who is now locked up and part of the charge was overstaying. The other guy that got arrested working as a manager of a bar on Mango could of at least paid visa fees but did not. A friend told me in his condo complex in Mandaue that there's an American who has overstayed something like 15 years, somehow illegally works collecting trash for some company. His condo is so full of items collected that he sleeps in the hallway so probably mentally unsound. But anyway then there are those who lost everything for one reason or another and can't find a way out of the situation so can't pay and can't leave. Not everything is black and white
