"Only in the Philippines"

Or as the locals say; "Only in Da Philippines" :hystery:    But seriously, "Love the Philippines" works for me because I do love the Philippines despite the occasional, sometimes often, frustrations.

Maybe that's why we love it?

One is a statement.

The other is ambiguous.  Is it some sort of declarative statement ?  Or an imperative ?

Love the ............ (put anything you want here).  Every tourist spot these days has a "I love -----" sign on site, and its become almost a meaningless cliche.

Then again, in authoritarian countries, people are commanded to be ultra-nationalists. If you don't 'Love' your country, bad things might happen to you. LOL

For me, the expression "Only in the Philippines" sounds negative as I feel the expression is mostly used to describe a situation where something happens that isn't "normal" and not in a good way.

How often have we heard it used by locals?  How often have we used it?  And most of the time it's used to downplay a negative situation.
