JJReyes Posted January 26 Posted January 26 While using Grab, the driver had a minor accident. It was more of a fender bender type with scratches and slight bumps on both vehicles. Traffic built up behind us until the arrival or some sort of traffic official riding a motorbike. He took a few pictures with his phone, then the local official motioned both drivers to move their vehicles to a side road. We didn't want to get stuck for an hour, so I quickly paid our driver and flagged down a passing taxi. On second thought, I wondered if our action is a violation of local law. Are we required to remain in case statements, as passengers, were needed?

Don't worry about it, what you paid the Grab driver, he paid the local official, move along nothing here to see as usual 1

Best that you left or you would have been found at fault for the crash as it’s always the rich foreigners fault! 3 1

Possum Posted January 27 Posted January 27 You weren't driving so no need to stick around. There is no law saying you have to be a witness.

Not always the case. We were rear ended in a line of traffic - I was driving. The car behind actually hit a tricycle into us. The traffic cop took a quick look and decided the car behind was at fault although in reality the tricycle was the root cause of the accident as it cut into the traffic. Now, whilst I agree that I was certainly not to blame there is some grounds for sympathy for the other driver and I wouldn't have been surprised if the traffic cop had tried to make it a no-blame accident - he didn't even attempt to do so.

Actually, the logic is perfect. It is JJR's fault because he was there, and if he was not there, the taxi never would have been there at that precise moment in the space / time continuum. Simple. 1

It sounds like a joke to us, but unfortunately people have said this being dead serious!

So I distributed P500 to the doormen at our hotel. One of them had texted Grab for our ride. If someone comes calling, they have never heard of me.
