Landers vs. S&R

Joined Landers a few weeks ago.  They have 50% off memberships at their website.  Only 350 instead of 700.

Finally made it over to Landers Angeles yesterday.  First time in a Landers.  It is a big place and has a more upscale feel compared to S&R.  The resto area is very big and nice.  Nice booth type tables with upholstered seating.  I didn't take a close look at the menu but I think they have more options than S&R.

I felt the layout could be better.  Some types of items seemed out of place.  There are no signs on the aisles for guidance.  Pricing on some items seemed to be a bit higher than S&R / Pure Gold Duty Free / Royal Duty free.

For my Keto / Carnivore / low carb eating, I was disappointed.  Very small cheese selection.  Small imported yogurt selection.  Frozen Blueberries are from China.  Small nut selection.  For meats, I am mainly interested in beef and bacon.  I could not find a bacon that looked good (without a lot of maple / sugar, etc.) and no frozen ground beef.  The "fresh" beef was mainly an in house brand called Farm Choice.  There were ribeyes for only p600 a kilo and they looked ok.  I didn't buy any because for that price it must be local beef.  They had some Brazilian beef that I did not look at closely.  I did not see any US / AU / NZ beef.

For appliances, TVs, that sort of thing, they seemed to have a small collection compared to S&R.  They had my Samsung frig for full retail price, 96 k.  I paid 62 for it at SM appliance after some nice discounts.

So I think I like S&R products better than Landers, for my diet.  There were hardly any people in the store, Monday at 11 am.  Only 2 registers open and no waiting.

Next time we will take the kids and try the resto.  Like S&R, they have New York pizza and it says "Real New York Pizza" on the box!

Right-o. I bought some on my first visit there with L who is a member - I am not. Shoe leather anyone? It tasted okay, but was tough, even though I cooked it medium rare. L wanted hers medium well and it was REALLY tough.

My take was that the store had a number of products not available at S & R. Their wine selection was miserable - mostly bottles with corks. I bought two @~400-500 each. S & R is the place for wine and spirits.

They did have a small cheese section, but I bought a couple and they were, surprisingly, outstanding. I bought small packs of white cheddar and was very impressed when I opened them up and tasted. They also had Parmesano, Romano, Brie and some other exotics.

They carried some Kirkland brand items like toilet tissue and various dried and canned goods. As noted above, the place was huge and very clean and modern - it just opened earlier this year, I think. Veggie stock was disappointing with few basics like onions, potatoes, garlic. They had a decent frozen fish section and sold fresh fish at a counter too. The catch-of-the-day for me was that they had large fillets of coho salmon. I bought one to give it a try and it is still languishing in our freezer. It was similarly priced compared to the frozen Atlantic salmon found at S & R so I thought it was a deal as coho is a better quality salmon.

If I remember correctly, they didn't have furniture, or much hardware, but then I wasn't looking for any either so my eyes just skipped past anything they might have had.

For the low membership price, I will join as it is an adjunct and alternative to S & R. Oh...they had some great tripe doggie chews that our "guard" dog just adores and the bonus is they are tough and it takes him a while to demolish them.

I am really curious about their pizza and other resto foods, so please report? We didn't have time to visit there...

Good price, I may have to check out Landers again. S&R around here always has a terrible meat section. I just end up getting a few rotisserie chickens.

Too good.  It was "fresh" so it is local beef.  Give it a try and let us know.  Tommy said he tried it or similar, and it was very tough.  That is my experience with local beef too.

I have both. The only thing I buy at Landers is the multigrain dark bread. Best I've found in the Philippines.

The Landmark across the street from Landers has a much better selection, but alas, none of the good bread.

Have to go to both when we are in the city. The cats like the food and liter from Landers and we get a deal on the dog food at S And R. As for myself, the King of the Castle, the Lord of the Maner.... I have a hard time telling if the pot on the stove is for me the herd......:cornflakes:

wow, my experience was Landers has a much better meat selection (especially chicken and pork).  Wonder if you caught them on an off day??  I may go there today, if I do, I will check out the meat section.   Landers IMO has a better selection, at least for what I am looking for.  It is also much more organized and checkout is usually a breeze.  Prices I thought were very similar

I forgot to mention that the checkout at Landers was far faster and easier than S & R. One staff unloaded the carts while the other did the cashiering. I did not buy their chicken and pork for which there was lots of stock, especially the chicken. We did not need any so don't know, but it all looked okay and no foul (pun intended) odors.

Probably a bad example, but that frig I mentioned was full suggested retail.  Weird.

I noticed the Strong Zero drink I like was 119.  I have not bought it in a while but I never paid that much.

Let me know what you find for beef.

In addition to the photos, they also had rib eye etc. cuts from the US, Japan and Australia in the frozen section.    And then of course all of the local beef.  The pork and chicken is much better than S and R as well. (again IMO)
