Hi Guys,Do any of you know if there are medium-long term rental apartments or local homestays available in Borocay Island for around the $200 (or cheaper) a month price range?Im assuming the best way to hunt one down is to be there on the island and ask the locals... but I just want to know they at least exist before I head over to Boracay. All I really need is a place in good condition with a bedroom, bathroom, cooking facilities (hopefully an oven) but I could always get myself a portable gas stove to cook with. no cable tv.Look forward to hearing from you soon!Oz

Good luck trying to find a decent place for 8000 pesos a month in Boracay and if you are just going to Boracay to live cheaply and think there will be lots of woman to meet you are sadly mistaken. It is a place that most guys bring their girlfriends or wives to. There are some single women there but there are way better places to meet woman like Cebu. But if you are still determined to stay there here is what I found about as cheap as possible. I have not seen this place but reviews are mixed and don,t always believe the Pictures you see. http://asiabill.pages.qpg.com/id24.html. I think the lowest price I saw there was 13,000 pesos a month ( $300 us ) but you needed to lock in for 6 months. Normal price is 15000 a month. Here is a list of so called budget hotels. You should google each place to find out all the specifics. http://www.travellerspoint.com/budget-accommodation-en-ci-159.html. Remember that when you stay for a month or longer you can get the price down a lot lower and if you go during low season they will some times wheel and deal with you. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks SJP,Yeh I thought it was going to be tough finding a cheaper place on Boracay. I had already checked out AsiaBills apartments but the $300+ is just a bit too much.Im going to be arriving in July so thought i might be able to pick something up a bit cheaper in the low season. Thanks for your help mate.

Try Puerto Galera. A friend who visited and stayed a month claims he did it for under $600 - basic accommodation, food, and two bottles of beer per day limit. Accessing the location is probably cheaper. From Manila, you can take a public bus to Batangas and then a ferry boat to Puerto Galera. Add a post after your trip and pictures. The forum is always interested in personal travel experiences.

JJR,Funnily enough I was also thinking of Peurto Galera! Whats the nightlife in PG like? What kind of bars/clubs do they have on offer there, and what groups of people mainly live and visit PG?... Im in my mid-20s so hopefully young women from Manila come and holiday down in PG? :mocking:SJP, Bahaha!!! :)

Unfortunately, he is a really old fashioned kind of guy. No computer, no mobile phone, no television, no car. He reads about 40 books a year, rides a bicycle, and spends most of his time in Waikiki. His main complaint about Puerto Galera is the girls want money. In Waikiki, he sweet talks visiting Japanese office ladies (young, single, good job, lives with parents, lots of money) into romance during their brief stay. Then the office ladies recommend him to their friends and how to find him on the beach! I guess temporary girl friends is one reason he refuses telecommunication tools. He won't take money and gifts. The office ladies work long hours in concrete & steel buildings. He considers romancing them for a few days is his gift to their humanity. The guy is a real character. I walk Waikiki while my wife is at her Yoga class. We chat except when he is romancing another girl. I am tempted to write a book about him. Edited by Jollygoodfellow

Puerto Galera is a mini Boracay and one of my favorite spots in the Philipines. I can confirm that expenses in PG are alot less than Boracay. The town of Sabang is primarily a diving town, thus catering to alot of single males. There are 5 or 6 clubs there but honestly, I have never been to any of them as my girlfriend from Manila is always with me. We are usually early to bed and early to rise. For a filipino town, Sabang has everything you need to live a quiet filipino lifestyle. If you like the nightlife, it has that too. Don't go to Sabang for the beach as its really quite rocky and crappy.About a 15 minute trike ride from Sabang is the White Beach area which is my favorite on the island (Mindoro). There are perhaps a dozen restobars on the beach along with maybe a dozen hotels. The views across the Verde Straights are gorgeous as is the water and water temp. If you walk back behind the hotels you will enter a small town area with a few commercial places. We often buy some fish for $1.00 and take it to a small restaurant there where they will cook it and provide rice and salad for another $1.00. From Manila you take the bus down to the harbor at Batangas. I always recommend doing the trip on a Sunday morning for traffic reasons. Hop on a banka boat in Batangas to either Sabang or White Beach. Some stop off at Sabang and continue to White Beach. Others just go from one town or the other. Always confirm that you'll be on the right boat to the right place before departure. Anyway, the point is that I've spent plenty of time on Mindoro and know from experience that its considerably less expensive than Boracay. I never really looked but I'd think you could get something in or between Sabang and White Beach for 8,000.
