i post this in "LIFE AS AN EXPAT"

as this is a part of the way of life here,,

This week is called "holy week" and as such, many things will be either closed,"out of stock" or crowded,

 so as a reminder

make sure you have extra PHP.cash, food and plan ahead .

not sure of the EXACT closures or times ,

so better be safe than"sorry out of ...cash/food/Beer."

The country is closed except for the popular destinations that will probably double or triple their rates. Not the best time to be having some time out on a nice white sandy beach unless you happen to be living close to one already heheh

Its quite hilarious that the whole country will indeed shut down & being devout Catholics, understandable..... My wife works for the countries newest & biggest Casino, yet they haven't been told if they will shut during this apparent very religious time, Guess its ok to gamble on good friday but not to go to the bank or supermarket! :)

Personally not being the religious type I find it such a morbid time of year & cant wait for it to be over........ All those guys whipping themselves whilst walking down my street does nothing to brighten up the day!

The casino owners will explain that they have to keep their establishments open because the tourists need to go somewhere during Holy Week. Of course, the tourists are out taking pictures for the flagerrants.  Don't forget to watch The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, Quo Vadis, The Song of Bernadette and other similar films on television. A case of beer in an ice chest next to your recliner chair helps.

Why do you think all those wealthy family flee to the resorts or go overseas during Holy Week? Listening to the clatter from the mahjong tables indicates that fleeing the cities has nothing to do with religious fervour.

I'm just happy that the temperature is above freezing today finally (+4 degrees)...  Last year we were in the 20's already!

Oh look!  That Easter Lilly has such pretty icicles!!!

:mocking:

Actually went up to 9 degrees today, but we still haven't seen any robins, so maybe it's still too early to say that winter is over.

We wish we could be at our house in Marinduque for the Holy Week.  My wife has never seen the Moriones festival.  Apparently, people flock to Marinduque to experience it.

I have 3 that sit in the tree out front every day and are making a mess of my car.  My cat is mad at them because she wants to play with them.

Pardon me for saying this, but I am so happy to hear about the robins.  Will switch out the winter tires this weekend.
