Has anyone ever declared more than 10,000 dollars when they arrived in the Philippines?  And, if you did what was needed to justify bringing that much cash into the country.

Yes. I was asked the reason for bringing so much cash to the Philippines. My response was, "I like going to the casinos." This is an acceptable explanation.

Let's see here........10000 (ten thousand) Philippine pisos is equal to about $230 US bucks....

Chump change really....."pocket" money....

My response, if my bag had been searched (and never has been) and the over 60000 pisos I had in there found.....

"I want to contribute to the Philippine economy officer.....and that money is going directly to my first night in a high end luxury hotel resort room"

Bottom line:....absolutely ridiculous rule

I think the $10,000 US dollar rule is from the United States government wanting to know how much currency travels around. Pretty much any transaction here over 10,000 must be reported to the IRS. They are looking for tax cheats and a slew of other non reported monies.

$10K USD ok.....$235 USD a resounding no.....which 10K pisos are at the present exchange rate.

As I recall the limit is $10,000 USD or 10,000 pesos. i.e. These are 2 different things.

There are actually two questions. One refers to the P10,000 reporting requirement. The other refers to the $10,000 reporting requirement.

It is not illegal to export more than $10,000 in cash or its equivalent (gold, silver, negotiable securities, cashier's checks, etc.) from the United States. The legal requirement is that you make a declaration.

I was searched coming in last July. He counted my money twice and then he called over another in a fancy bling bling costume. I had 19,520.40p and less than $10,000 C. I explained that it was for the two of us so they then searched my wife. She had what she was born with so they waved us thru.

I am not sure about Philippines rules, but US Customs is $10,000 for the entire group. If your wife and other family members are with you, the total amount can exceed $10,000, but you must declare.

The P10,000 is an old, archaic Bangkok Sentral ng Pilipinas rule. It is still there because coinage is smuggled out of the country for smelting. The metal value is higher than the face value.

If caught, the rule should be any amount above P10,000 or $10,000. No such luck. They take everything.

I have declared way more than 10.000$ upon arriving in Philippines. I was only asked what do I need them for, I replied to buy a condo. They filled a paper that they gave me and welcome to Philippines sir, no other complications.

I have declared many times more than 10.000$ leaving from US, sometimes they ask me to count it in front of them, other times just filling a paper....
