Where To Go? Bacolod. Laguna. Tagatay

Hi All

The time has finally arrived, armed with my newly acquired SRRV and my Filipino partner of 15 years (we're not married) I'll be retiring within the next 12 - 15 months. The big question now is where. I'm down to Bacolod - where her Family are, I've met most and they seem good people or the Laguna, Tagatay areas, which I liked when I looked at it. Wherever we end up the plan is to rent for a year and see how things work out, I would though be interested in any views of people living in these areas.

Rent in all 3 areas for as long as you feel OK about it, then move on. Rent will be less money in Bacolod but there is nothing there to do. Being near to Manila has the advantage of flying out to another country.

Sorry, not familiar with those areas too much but perhaps you could write another topic about obtaining your SRRV. I think there's some interest in that.

It depends whether or not you have health issues. The advantage of Tagaytay and Laguna is proximity to world-class hospitals including Asian Hospital and St. Luke's. You need to investigate if Bacolod has at least one hospital of similar quality. They should have highly competent general medicine doctors, but there are times you may need specialists.

I changed the topic title as we have members from those areas and it might grab their attention.

Thanks for the input, I'll put something together about the SRRV experience in the visa section.

Sounds like a plan - Thanks

Well honestly if you like clubbing ... partying and the night life skip Bacolod ..... fancy 5 star hotels and eateries .... skip Bacolod ..... if you like the fast lane get in your face type of atmosphere .... skip Bacolod .... the latest in tourist attractions ...... than skip Bacolod ........ the newest in electronics with the best pricing .... skip the Philippines  :hystery:  ....

We aren't like Cebu City .... Manila or Davao ..... BUT .... we offer nice places to live and stay .... good food at reasonable prices ..... friendly smiling people with a nice laid back atmosphere ..... things to do that don't cost a lot of money like nature resorts and hiking .... good beaches a bit further south .... fabulous sea food and the best chicken inasal  you have ever ate .... we have 3 major shopping malls .... SM .... Ayala and Gaisano with a bunch of Gaisano smaller branches like in most larger cities ....

Can't tell you about the schools as we don't have kids but I will say they seem much better behaved than the kids in Cebu .... and you can actually hear yourself talk while eating in the local eateries in the malls when they come in for lunch from the various schools .... something I could never do when we lived for 5 years in Cebu City .....

All in all we like it here and have no desire to move to another location .... but then we enjoy the simple life and can make our own fun .... in other words we don't need to be entertained .... :tiphat:

I agree about the advantages in living in Laguna its near Makati, high end hospitals, airports, Malls, beach in Batangas (2h) etc. i have been here for 5 yrs prefer it here than Makati. I am at Sta Rosa and just finished building our house.

Appreciate the replies, this is helpful, quiet and countryside does appeal to me and I'll be over soon to check Bacolod out. The only thing that's holding me back is that I do have some mobility issues and would need access to a good neurologist which is why I think a little about the Laguna area. The big plus (maybe) is that my partners family are in Bacolod which could prove useful. Tough decision and renting first is a must. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
