Popular Post frosty (chris) Posted January 17, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) There has been much talk lately of banks, paying bills and problems associated with this, so I will tell you not all is bad here, in fact the older you get at some places here the better you are treated. Before coming to the live here I'd gotten to the stage in my home country where at my age I was invisible, seems as you get older not only your eye sight begins to fail but most other peoples as well. Anyway, I was at SM (Cebu) Mall, my g/f was doing what all Filipina's just love to do, shopping in SM Dept Store I'd had enough of shoes, make up, bikini's (although i did like watching all the girls trying them on) dresses, oh and shoes again. bah!!!!! Anyway I was carrying the water bill and I spied there payment section just outside the dept store so I said to STMBO I would go and pay while she continued to shop. Upon entering to pay the bill there was 4 cashiers and about 20 odd people waiting in each line, so as fast as things go here I was looking at at least a 30 minutes wait.I took my place at the end of the line.I was enjoying the scenery as one does waiting in line here when I was was grabbed on the arm by the guard, I thought I had done something wrong, He Senior Me Yes He Not here then Me What not here He You Sir. The guard then took me by the arm to the front of the line to pay, everyone looked, no-one battered an eyelid. The cashier looked at the guard, me , smiled as they do here  and accepted my bill, in and out in oh say 3 mins.So here in the PI age is not such a bad thing, only that you are getting old :hystery: Edited January 18, 2015 by frosty (chris)
jpbago Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I agree that we should take advantage of that in being old. Our electric company has 2 line ups, one for seniors and one for all others but sometimes, there are many seniors. I would sometimes get nasty looks when going in the senior's line as some of the others looked older than I. I have now found out from this wonderful forum, that I can pay my bill at the bank. Here, it is not so polite. Two people jumped the line and it has happened elsewhere. The bus line ups are very rude and pushy. At the SM supermarket, there is a cashier for seniors. Some stores give a 20% discount to RP seniors with ID, even if she is 84, they ask for ID.

Chris, just for the record exactly what SM mall department store was this swim wear tryout area located? I'm just curious not that I would visit or and all. :10001: Was at Cebu SM. I was happy to stay and evaluate the young ladies trying this seasons swimwear on but I could see my girl was getting a little annoyed when I would pass a comment about some young ladies capacity to fill her bikini top :th_hu: , I even offered to choose an outfit for one or two of them, got the death stare :attention:

Dave Hounddriver Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Has anyone here actually tried the senior line in SM or other grocery stores Yes, On rare occasions the cashier at the grocery store has waved me ahead of all the 20 to 40 year olds who are in line at the 'Seniors and persons with disabilities' line but usually I have to wait behind them like any non-senior. I like to think it is because I do not look my age :tiphat:

On producing my Passport I was allowed in line. My wife wont take me shopping anymore  as she now feels the ladies are looking at me in a different Light. JP :tiphat:

To qualify for the tax rebate, the store or restaurant needs the ID number on the senior card.

I start with a Big Cart and then decide which cashier that I go to when I get there. I also always go in with a list and buy what is on the list, unlike the locals.
