Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 13) — Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a memorandum that non-medical grade face shield or the one used in public settings should cover the whole face of the person wearing it.

Below are the other DOH-recommended specifications for the said face covering:

-Made of plastic or acetate material

-Can be disinfected easily

-Provides good visibility

-Fog resistant

-Has an adjustable band to attach firmly around the head

-Fits the forehead

Some face shields available in the market are visor-type ones which only cover the eyes.

The above was only recommended, but not approved

The DOH approved the eye glass type for use.

Recognizing that there are different styles and variations of face shields available in the market, the DOH-WV CHD clarified that minimum standards or requirements/specifications are issued by the Health Department to ensure the device serves its purpose. If there are variations such as the eyeglass-type face shield, these can be considered acceptable as long as it meets the recommended requirement that it should completely cover the full face including the sides and the length of the face,” the DOH-WV CHD said in its press statement.

Like everything else here this is going to be very, very selective.

Like Jolly says, everyone wears a helmet on the main roads, but go one block away to a parallel road and you (here in Manila) see no helmets, double and triple riding and not a cop in sight.

Almost nightly on the news here you will see motorcycle kops issuing tickets and the officer in charge being interviewed, but as soon as the cameras are gone the kops all gather together and just wave their arms for traffic to move.

So who will enforce the face mask law in the neighborhoods, will they ticket all the ladies sitting outside their houses selling BBQ and lugaw? Heck, there was an article today that they are reducing the fine for not wearing a mask in Quezon city.

call my cynical but the virus isn't getting spread by motorcycle riders, or even in restaurants and malls. It is getting spread  in the back alleys and narrow streets

I am allowed to travel because  of our business and what you describe is  exactly what i am seeing on a daily basis in every town and city.

If the face shields are mostly to protect the eyes from the virus then I suggest motorcycles goggles would work much better. Phil government should allow them also.

So it seems like they have backtracked a little as in the beginning the eyeglass ones were not acceptable, from what I read on DOH.
