Mystery solved!

Huh? Shore patrol was somehow offensive to someone?  Other than when you get dragged away by them I mean... Of course I only ever heard of this happening to other people, never experienced it myself.. :whistling:

Unfortunately, the U.S. military is going through sad times.  I hope it can be reversed.  They probably have a book of terms and acronyms, and they had some "experts" go through them and flag which ones are offensive or potentially expensive.  Then they spend millions to make the changes.

Woke will destroy our military if allowed to fester.

Yeah, I remember the recruiting drive a few years back, some of my ex-US military mates were pretty irritated by it.  It's happening in Australia to a lesser extent as well but on the upside they haven't dropped the standards for getting through to a deployable level at least.

This is the recruiting ad I remember from a few years back, with some interesting commentary from a US Marine Gulf 1 veteran:

Good video.  Common sense from him, but common sense is scarce elsewhere.

Ok, got my answer

SLG is U.S. Navy woke speak for Shore Patrol.  Shore Liaison Group.

Ships in port:

USS New Orleans, USNS John Ericsson, USNS Big Horn and we're expecting Millinocket, Rappahanock and Brunswick by next week

So I guess who has the funny language now.  :whistling:

"Shore Liaison Group"  sounds about right  . . .  At one point the Subic Armed Forces Police (AFP) became the politically neutered "Facility Security Dept."  (FSD).  The AFP town patrol (four to six paddy wagons[ . . . wait a minute, that's a slur against the Irish!] ) became the asinine "Behavior Control Unit"! ! !

I am so fortunate to have walked the streets of Olongapo City as an AFP/SP.  It was the experience of a lifetime.  It was the wildest, wide-open liberty port in the world; the craziest pulsating, high energy 'alternative universe' , beyond imagination.  I would encourage you to read Rod Leininger's "Olongapo Liberty".  His novel captures the experience.

I was fortunate enough to visit Subic a couple of years prior to the US withdrawal with the Aussie navy on my first SE Asian deployment at the tender age of 20. Needless to say it's where my love affair with PI began.  I wasn't naïve at that age but damn, that place opened my eyes to a few things...
