Yes you wont be hiring a car without a license.

My issue is next renew I have to have a new picture taken as they will only allow 10 years online so means I have to do so in person. Last time I did it while living here online I changed my address to a friends place s he could post the license to me but he said my new one never arrived so I just did nothing. I can't remember how many years I chose at the time either.

QLD have the same 5 year rule

If your licence expired 5 or more years ago, you cannot  renew your licence. You will need to apply for a learner licence. However, you are able  to apply for a class of licence you previously held as a returning  driver.
