Just wondering is there any members have or been looking at the MG range of cars over in the Philippines, over here in the UK they seem to be lots around and I must say they do look nice too , and for the price you seem to be getting a lot of motorcar .

The model MG ZS a medium size suv is the one

Popular here as well.

It was on our shortlist when we were buying last year, in fact it was my wife and son's 1st pick and I was interested but wary of getting parts in the same way I'd be of getting a European car.

I was also slightly concerned that it was cosmetically better than the likes of Toyota etc but build quality etc?

Yes build quality would be my concern compared to the likes of Toyota , but the reviews from folk seem to be very good for the MG plus the price comparison too

Yep...the MG SUV we were considering was more or less the same price as the Toyota Raize we opted for but, to me, bigger and with more features - especially the leather seats.

Chinese cars get a bad press here but how much is deserved I have no idea.

The main issue with Chinese cars isn't so much the build quality as it is spare parts availability in my experience.

You do get more car for your peso (or dollar or pound) though...

I will never buy a vehicle built in China.  You have to draw the line somewhere.  Sure I do buy a lot of Chinese goods.  It is unavoidable especially in the Philippines.  However I will never make a large expenditure on a Communist Chinese product.  They do want to rule the world and slowing but surely they are taking over poor countries.

With the WPS issues, the Philippines is the last country that should be doing business with China, but like other 3rd world countries, they got the hook in their mouth and it is hard to shake.

I have not seen much bad press here except for Geeley.  I saw one a few days ago with the tail light out, and it appeared to be brand new.  Did Chery leave the market?  I saw one the other day and realized I had not seen one for a long time.

Without getting into the politics of it, I'm not sure the difference between making many small purchases and one large one - both are contributing to the Chinese economy.   All those 200PHP purchases on Lazada and Shopee add up.

Anyhow, as to Chery - we still have a showroom here so I guess they're still around.

Not just Shopee and Lazada, but almost everything here and also in the U.S.  I somewhat agree, but like I said, you have to draw the line somewhere.

After the 2nd world war , my gran would not buy or eat anything made or grown in Germany , but I’m sure she let slip on the odd occasions

A couple years back my wife and saw the Suzuki S-presso and both really liked the look and size of the car.  We spoke with the owner and found out it only came with a manual transmission.  This year they came out with an AGS (automatic gear shift) transmission version.  We bought one two months ago and so far we both like it.  The AGS transmission is a manual transmission without a clutch pedal.  A computer controls the shifting and gear selection.  You can also use the transmission like a manual and select the gears yourself, it is a five speed transmission.
