Popular Post Jollygoodfellow Posted March 23, 2012 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2012 On a rare occasion I do some thinking and today a sort of question entered my head that I feel would be interesting for other members to discuss.Does size really matter?Wrong question. :)How did you end up being interested in the Philippines? Where did it all begin? Surely you weren't born with an instinct that the Philippines is where you should be so lets hear how you became interested or why you moved to the Philippines.I will start off with my short version of how the Philippines entered my life. A long time ago after breaking up with my Australian girlfriend for the umpteen time I decided that was it,its over.Since I had always had an attraction for the Asian woman that I'm not sure I can explain but anyway I decided to look at the online dating sites of Asian women,Was not to long before I started chatting to Filipinas and felt that a Filipina was for me compared to other Asian women, anyway found a girlfriend from Cebu and came to visit her. Not really a problem there but ended up marrying the girlfriends best friend. My attraction to the Philippines grew with each visit for a variety of reason which is probably not what this topic is about but lets hear about how you ended up an expat or will be in the future. What was the point or reason that the Philippines is a part of your life? If you tell me its because corn flakes were once less expensive I will have to deal with you. (In house joke sorry) :lol:Back to topic
Dave Hounddriver Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Simple answer. I met a guy who spent 6 months of the year here and 6 months working where I was working. He showed me pics of his wife. He showed me pics of her single sister.I did not end up with that one but its how it all started.
Forum Support Popular Post Old55 Posted March 23, 2012 Forum Support Popular Post Posted March 23, 2012 SCUBA diving and sex? Many years ago my ex-wife left me taking everything I owned I said "never again with an American B#*@". Soon some of my Filipino American coworkers began to tease me with pictures of Filipina relatives who would be interested to exchange letters. It took awhile but I went to Philippines with a friend to meet the niece of a coworker and SCUBA dive. THe niece was young a total sweetheart and smoking hot but dumber that a box of rocks. I also had written a few letters to a little gal in Cebu so I flew down and met her. End of story. Now many happy years of marriage she has me trained very well. :lol:Dose size really matter? My wife is 4'10" I'm well over six feet and its all good. :whistling:
ironmaiden Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 20 years ago I went to Thailand, this was my first real trip to "very far away". I absolutely loved it and the next year I went back to Thailand, and to the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. Since then I have travelled in most countries in South East Asia but I kept coming back to the Philippines every year cause it was the country I liked the most. I love travelling but going to a country for a couple of weeks or spending 6 months a year there (or living there) is not the same. The Philippines was the only country I really wanted to live in then, foreigners were easily accepted, no problems with muslims like in Indonesia ( at the end of the 90's), not too expensive, english easily understood, visa's easily obtained (no need to fly out of the country if you don't want to - flights used to be expensive, not anymore now) and of course, the girls were "easy"... I doubt if I would still choose for the Philippines if I were to arrive here now for the first time, but I'm already married ( last november) and happy with my life so...
Popular Post joeatmanila Posted March 23, 2012 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2012 Despite the fact i was a sailor for 15 years, i had never been to SE Asia. I met my filipina wife onboard a cruise ship where i was working as an engineer and she was a nurse.Fell in love with her, decided she will be the mother of my kids and so i did. She left the ship before me due to her pregnancy, as soon as i left i came in Philippines with the purpose to bring her over to Greece.I got a huge culture shock here, almost a nervous breakdown, still cannot eat most of the filipino foods, long story made short, the one thing led to the other and we ended up living here.No complains so far. As soon as i do start feeling uncomfortable or miserable here i will go where i came from.
Popular Post Garpo Posted March 23, 2012 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) Well for me! One day I was searching the internet for the world wide price of Corn Flakes when I ran a across a forum in the Philippines.......... :hystery:Actually, I was living in the Mountain West area of the U.S. and had just recently went through a very ugly divorce. After working in the same profession for over 35 years and having a pension I started looking and researching different places around the world to live.At the time, I was what I considered as being close to poor from the divorce, overweight, short, and ugly. I came across some information about the Philippines and what a great place it was for a retired single guy to retire and live. It did not matter how old you were, how short you were, how poor you were,or how fat you were, It said I would be welcome in the Philippines, that pretty girls would like me and I could live like a king, everybody would actually even know my name. When my flight landed in Manila and I got off the plane, I found out that I was suddenly taller than everybody, even though I was fat, I was getting smiles from very young and beautiful women. Everybody thought I was rich, my name had been changed to Joe and everybody knew me. Even though I was 55 years old I was able to meet a beautiful young Filipina model and with-in a year we were married.I have no regrets and have now been here going on two years. Most of what I had researched and heard was actually pretty true, other than the price of the Corn Flakes.............. :whistling: Edited March 23, 2012 by Garpo

Popular Post volstateguy Posted March 23, 2012 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) Good topic Bossman.During my first assignment to Korea in 2003 I worked with a guy who was soon retiring. One day the topic of what his plans for retirement was and he said that he was retiring in the Philippines. That was the first I had heard of retiring or living in the Philippines, so I was inquisitiveas to why he was going to retire there. He had all the usual reasons (now I know they are the usual reasons) beautiful girls, good weather, and cheap to live.I guess that just stuck in my head because when I got divorced a couple years later I started doing my own research into retiring in the Philippines. The more I researched I knew I wanted to visit, and now that I've been there a few times I know the Philippines is where I want to retire.
