This is MHO but the signs are on the wall . stable government with fairly responsible policy's and a low over head (no real wars) What Canada really needs right now is more people

More people? How cold does it get? There is a joke circulating how God made Canada such a perfect place. When asked, "Why did you make Canada so perfect?" God replied, "Wait until you see their neighbors." I thought there was something lacking in the joke because it failed to mention winter weather.

My wife and I enjoy traveling to Canada, but we now limit ourselves to summer months. Years ago, the airplanes from Canada to Hawaii were at 100% of capacity starting around December 15th. The same airplanes heading in the opposite direction were mostly empty. For airlines, that's an average of 50% load factor. Your aircraft amortization, landing fees, fuel costs and crews are constant in terms of operating expenses. They started offering Hawaii residents "Mele Kalikimaka" (Merry Christmas) fares at $99 round trip! It was cheaper than going to an outer island. Unfortunately, Hawaii residents were ill prepared for the Canadian winter. Everyone kept reassuring us it was still mild weather compared to January and early February.

My wife and I and our then two small children ventured no further than Vancouver and Victoria Island. We did Christimas in Canada three years in a row until they started raising the price to above $299 round trip.

optimistic would be saying 55 to one

For the next six months, a trading range on between PHP40 and PHP45 to USD1 is my projection. It will be closer to P40 near Christmas because of returning Overseas Filipino Workers. Many service industry workers, such as manning crews for cruise liners working on ten months contracts, keep their tips and bonuses in cash until they return home. I suspect they conceal the exact amount from their families so the money can be saved.

Not me I still predict 50 to 1 in the next year or so
Any reason? Or just hoping?

50 to 1 is a bit optimistic. The Bangko Sentral is committed to a trading range between P40 to P45 for the present time. What can change is the performance of major trading currencies such as the United States Dollar, Japanese Yen, and European Euro. Unfortunately, both the US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank are printing money, which could potentailly trigger inflation. What would happen is the Dollar and Euro would devalue against other currencies. The Canadian and Australian currencies would remain okay because their economies are more stable.

50 to 1 is quite obtainable - it all depends on what happens to the Canadian $. The Canadian $ is actually rising right now while the American $ and Euro are dropping. The Philippines wants to keep the exchange at between P40 and P45 to the US $ which makes the Canadian $ that much more valuable.

If world oil prices rise to 125 a barrel look out Canada will rise to the best economy in the world with the best standard of living .

I'd love to say that this is all that we need but there is still a need for more jobs to go with it. Right now most of our oil and gas are being sold to the US at very discounted prices. That is why all the uproar over China trying to buy one of the major players in the Oil Sands Project. We would be stupid to let the sale go through but we also need to develop more markets for out gas and oil and get a proper price for it as well!

we can view that the recent LOW is "worse" its been in a while and when it does hit a LOW it usually is for a few days to 2 weeks then inches its way BACK UP

Foreign exchange traders buy and sell currencies for their clients or sometimes for speculative reasons. Central Banks intervene whenever it gets out of hand because wild gyrations is not good for their economies. Sometimes highs and lows correct themselves without intervention. There is a very secretive organization called the Bank for Internatonal Settlements (BIS) located in Berne, Switzerland. This is the central bank of central banks. This organization is similar to LIBOR, which got hit by a major scandal recently, except there is very little information about BIS.

BIS is often regarded as the financial organization closest to what conspiracy theorists refer to as the Illuminati. They are not so much controlled by the different countries but rather have extensive behind-the-scenes control over the Central Banks of member countries. Interestingly enough, BIS recently took a slap to the back of their head from some of their member states recently over their handling of the banking world leading up to the Euro mess (ie: not effectively reigning in Greece, Italy, Spain, etc) and since then have been really quiet (compared to normal) on anything else happening in the world. Yes, they are very secretive but there are usually tid bits thrown out on what they want to happen. Myself, I think they are going to let everybody just work it out on their own and let the individuals sink or swim now before they start their backdoor manoeuvrings.

i dont know if we have a booming economy because the last year i certainly didnt feel it here in my city but things do seem to pick up around this time of year but that also could be misleading as well because its time the collage kids go back to school !! there are places in this country that are booming but what they dont mention that the cost of living has gone up as well , in Mississauga its hard to find a decent apartment to rent under $800 for a 1 bedroom ( thats Half a months wages for a factory worker ) if you take public transit add a $100 a month as we all know food prices have soared maybe $ 400 + a month for food ( if you eat rayan noodles and eggs ) , so if you make $14.50 an hour here which is average for a forklift driver here in my city !! so if you work 40 hours a week at those wages that gives you around $ 440 a week net x 4 weeks = $1760 - ( at least ) $800 for rent now total is $960 - public transportation $100 = $860 - food remember them yummy noodles LOL = $560 left for the month of course i havent included heating or hydro or phone cable or internet , im not trying to paint a bleak outlook !!! just giving you all the reality from my own eyes , if you have a very high paying job here it can be a great place to live but if your a average worker its incredibly hard to make it more or less support a family abroad but im not going to be negative but if you see more payday loan places moving in around your area you know somethings wrong !!!

anyway there is always hope that things will pick up especially vrs the cdn $ - pesos makes it a little easier on me thats for sure !!! LOL

my 2 cents for whats its worth in pesos LOL hahahaha

Yes, much of Canada is colder than Siberia during the winter. And what many people forget is that much of the US is colder than a lot of Canada during the winter. And summer? We just had about a month (June into July) where, once you apply humidity to the temperature, it was warmer here than it was in Cebu! It's like living with a weather yo-yo!

Right after 9/11, to cross the border from the Us to Canada wasn't too bad except Homeland Security was stopping people on the way out. It was even worse coming in. After the usual line-ups to cross became 24 hour "parking lots", many Americans stopped coming to Canada. So to increase tourism, sales like the $99 seat sales became common. Again, once it became mandatory to have a passport to cross, tourism dropped and many more sales became common again.

OUC - I know exactly what you mean! My military pension doesn't go very far. Here in Southern Ontario, we just keep getting burned on prices and wages dropping. If you want to make money, you pretty well have to be in the top 10% of a major company. I was offered a job managing a major national chain electronics store this week - for less than the wage you mentioned for fork lift drivers. I laughed so hard I cried... or was that I cried so hard I laughed? I just want to get back to work so I can pay off one last debt - and then it's off to the Philippines!

 My cash, whats left, is tied up in Gibraltar. as this is Pound Sterling based, My pension will be handled from Gibraltar also, So I will keep it there. At today's 66.81p the pound has made a little headway. I moved from the Euro before I came Home. only problem is PNB Madrid will not accept Sterling payments. Have to relocate the account to PNB London. :th_hu: Who said retiring was easy.

For those not sure, Gibraltar is a British territory (an Isthmus) at the Southern tip of Spain, (Andalucia) as the crow flies, about 14 miles from Morocco to the South
