Popular Post BrettGC Posted January 16, 2013 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) As the title says... For me it was a disaffection with life here in Australia. A few years ago I decided to not get caught up in the Australian dream of a quarter acre block, debt up to my eyeballs and comparing SUV's for no other reason other than that's what everyone else has always done and a your happiness is measured my things I don't really care that much about. I started looking for a way then. At first I looked at all the usual options locally: Byron Bay (no idea how the alternative lifestyle people afford to live there - it is probably the most beautiful pocket of Australia though), intentional communities (that's what they call communes now) etc. Then I started thinking about my travels and all the great places I'd visited overseas. I have a friend who runs a tour company in Vietnam and after talking to him about it, he's happy enough, and much happier than he'd be here in Aust, but he wishes he'd jumped to PI instead. He then explained to me all the reasons that I already knew. I just had be made aware of them. For those of you already there, or committed to the idea or whatever stage you're at, you know what I mean. So I started investigating the practical aspects; cost of living, lifestyle, what I could and couldn't live without and in the end it became a bit of a no brainer for me. I did consider Thailand but their retirement visa laws are much tighter than PI and after doing the overall comparison, including the culture I'd enjoyed the most, PI was it. The rest of you? Popular Post Americano Posted January 17, 2013 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2013 Nothing planted the seed for me but I did some seed planting in my life time. Where is Jake when you need him? The beautiful ladies who are not hung up on age differences , the warm weather year round, the high exchange rate and low cost of living did it for me.
