Chili And Beans

One of all time favorite meals is a big bowl of chili and beans, especially on rainy days, and I am really missing that here.

I can't seem to find PINTO beans, or frijoles, here in the Cebu area.....especially the Lapu_x2 area.

Garlic....check

Onions...check

Tomatoes....check

Chilies.....check

beef or pork.....check

salt....check

tabasco....check

NO pintos....just huge white beans or little bitty purple-ish ones.

Anyone come across any pintos?

have you tried "Rustans" or Metro( guess its gasiona?) they seem to have some imported items that

cant be found elsewhere,

Wendys now has a "chili" type meal if you like "fast food chili"

....................................................................................................................................................

for those in NCR/manila area,

some of the stores I have found that has those "import" or hard to fund items;

 Unimart-greenhills

Cherry-food a rama Quezon city

Cash n Carry- south superhiway Makati

makati supermarket - Alabang town center

Pioneer grocery- pasig (near shaw- new ace water spa)

Metro grocery at Market-market ,

maybe S& R membership . i am not a member so i cant verify

Haven't seen pintos but you can find red kidney beans at Metro Supermarkets in Cebu City. Bought them at Ayala and Pacific Malls. Probably Rustans also since Shopwise had them. They work great in chili.

I used to cook for Chili's.  We used red kidney beans for chili.  And you can find them in most larger grocery stores.   I just found a nice quality bell pepper and was planning a pot of chili... sure wish I had some chili powder... at least I have paprika.

~edit~  anyone know a good masa harina substitute?

Is that one in the same as the Metro Gaisano mall in Lapu_x2?

The same place that has the Immigration satellite office?

Cross the Osmena bridge from Mandaue and hang a left......just after the McDonalds?..right side?.....that Mall?.....

Haha....I just asked the novia and she looked at me like I was nuts......Metro mall she says?..ohhhhh she says maybe it's Metro GAISANO mall.

I will check that int'l aisle out tomorrow....thanks for the scoop.

I use masa as thickener in chili (I learned it from cooking at Chili's)
