As long as you can PROVE you will be here over 1 year then this is fine.:whistling: NEXT

The only thing that entitles you to stay in the Philippines is a residence visa, anything else you are just playing on their ignorance of their own rules. NEXT.

[Sigh] No gary. You do not have to be a Resident to get a driving licence we can be here for 3 years (Renewable) on a 99a Tourist Visa at any stretch then do a visa Run. The Law says that you may drive on your own Countries licensed for 90 days this is where the problem lays that they have made.

BTW we have many here on the Board that have been on 9a's for many years they are what the BI call  on LSTV's

That is Long Stay Tourists Visa"s, and that is legal.

I thought the LSTV was only valid for 6 months at a time so can not meet the 1 year and 1 month rule.

Will it work if you go on the day of arrival to the LTO while being on a BB visa?

According to the new rules it would be only possible to get driver license with a residental visa. (Reading between the lines.)

As I said earlier playing on their ignorance of the rules. The BB is not a visa it's a visa waiver, ie a stay without a visa.

Did someone tried that way already?  One day after arrival will be too less.

It will on the 2nd issue and in your Passport then if you have been Driving all that time it is illegal, We will never get things straight here but  be assured, you Do not have to be Resident per-say to hold a licence

The rule is that you need to have been in country for 1 month before appling and have a visa show you are legal to stay for a furthr 12 months. A BB does not qualify.

Thanks for that note. Ok then it seems only residental visa or every three months visa run will help. On the latter one you can drive on your own foreign license. It seems the first year on any visa after the first three month will be a mess. On 13a the first year is only contemporary. And even an one year rental contract will not be enough if it is created in the first month after arrival.

All of which is subject to the interpretation of the LTO officer you talk to the day you go to get your license. Some have a bit of common sense, some have their own requirements, some have to scratch their nose. Just plan on giving it a shot when you get here and see what happens. No amount of planning will guarantee a particular result. Don't worry, be happy...
