about time to come into the present and roll out contactless everywhere - debit and credit cards and wallets, like Apple Pay, Andriod Pay, GCash etc.

I did a trip to the US, Turkey and Greece lately and used exactly zero cash anywhere - this has been accelerated due to Covid and makes life real easy.

Yes...and No!

Unfortunately, the Tech environment here is not yet prepared for such a jump.  It's not so rare that the store cannot accept card payments as the internet is down for one reason or another.  A bug bear of mine is also ATM's - an unreasonably high number are not working when I try to use them.

Only once the place gets up to speed with the tech can stores make the move to contactless.

Sometimes here in the province the sari sari store doesn't have change for 100 peso note :whistling:

Might be another decade or so before cashless transactions used here...

I tend to disagree.

In my place it is now impossible to use cash in many places and I hate it!

It is fine if it is possible to pay with card or other electronic suloutions BUT in my opinion it should never be allowed to deny cash.

I really hope that Philippines won't go this way!

Would be good if one could use a debit card to book a flight on PAL.

Credit card only, no debit. Beats me.

I didn't say deny cash - all the places I used contactless also accepted cash - it's a choice.

You buy some high priced items or services and it's often cash only here -- smacks of tax evasion IMO -- especially since the ATMs have a low maximum you can pull out, which is why the ATM lines are so long -- as usual it's inefficient

Even now?  It was that way in many places here, during the middle of the pandemic, but these days all stores near me will accept cash.  Problem is I have started to like Tap n go.

At least that only stops you making a deposit rather than a withdrawal!
