Heading back to the Brgy to see what everyday life is like for a few days then its off to Pampanga to finish off this exploratory trip on a high note just to clear my mind about whatever the little guy is thinking right now. You guys have any clues or ideas to see if this trip is ' I dont know how to word it" I thought maybe if I just be there not trying to impress and modestly help out and throw in a few "no" what should I look for in reading the room or the girl. I like her and want to believe but watched too many train wrecks.

I think whether you like it or not, you will always be watched, always seen and for sure always judged.You are new to them for for sure there will be lots of watching. You maybe cant help trying to impress because they expect it and will allow it.

Maybe take the girl away from there.. take her on a trip...when you are with a girl 24 /7 then you quickly learn the bits you like the bits that irritate  etc etc. You will lhave a better idea how she is with you alone. With family around shes always going to be bit restricted in what she doe , says adn how she acts. Maybe shes wild but you wont know around her family.

Venturing out in the boondocks will be an eye opener.  Be prepare to be involve in a drinking session and eating mystery meat among all her uncles, cousins and probably her father.  Often times, you will be judged in how you accept anything out of your comfort zone.

We just moved to the "boonies", visited many times but this time it's for the foreseeable future.  Been here 3 weeks and loving it.  I'll do a detailed post in a week or so. 

Sanagimo, hope it all works out for you my friend.  Cautious optimism is the way to go, no one likes a sad sack.

I enjoy visiting the relatives in the 'boonies' but a week or two staying there with 1-3 MBps mobile internet (when it's working which it often isn't), a 15 minute walk to the nearest sari sari and a 30 minute drive to a real shop gets a bit boring after a while.  And the drinking sessions are a bit much for me these days 

And that's the relatives that are closer to the city... some live where there is no phone service at all, you need to drive a car (with good ground clearance) an hour along a road, take a dirt track for 15 minutes and then walk for another 30 minutes (probably won't be visiting there again).

Be prepared for concrete block CR's with a bucket and a tabo, bamboo houses, native chicken soup (which I actually like), lots of rice and LOTS of beer.

You might be tested with such local treats as 'intestines' and 'balut' and liver/kidneys...

I find a gentle "I prefer the pork or the chicken (or the fish)" works better than a refusal to try

Oh, oh.....there goes da neighborhood.  I can easily see RAN Chief Warrant Office Brett, corrupting the whole barrio in no time flat.  Many villagers would be going around telling the dirty jokes common with us sailors.  But you will be observed initially, especially during the drinking sessions.  Soon after a few sessions, you may notice a pecking order within the mini groups of drinkers.  Often times.....self invited.  That thin line between being nice and then eventually refusing their visits.  Sometimes, you gotta pick your enemies.  An enemy of an enemy.....

But you can establish yourself as a peaceful pensionare who walks around softly but carries a big stick.  And also with special gifts, like a bottle of Crown Royal to the barangay Capitan.  Jungle rules apply here.  And you're the new Sheriff in Town.

I often wonder how a Filipino can speak with an Australian accent, actually the whole village.  Yeah, you gonna corrupt them good.

Or you can enjoy trying to get the OTP when theres only one bar on the signal. Walk 300 metres along the road to get the OTP then run like heck to input it before the screen or OTP " times out".

So how can I get  a better signal... " Sir you see all those folk gathered under that mango tree... Yes.. they are getting the best available signal."
