Gym encouragement

Hi

Just wondering if any expats on here may have any advice to offer on this? I've been with my girl long distance for a few years (couldn't see each other during the pandemic obviously) but I'm back with her on a month's holiday now and I notice she's gaining weight. I've suggested going to the gym and I'd pay but constantly get shrugged off with "maybe later hon". I like to keep in shape  and I'd like her to at least make the effort to burn off what she's putting on. Anyone ever had a similar experience?

Good luck with that. Almost all of the Filipinas pack on a few pounds with time.  The only real question is how much time.  That said, I do know one Filipina with an American man who live in Dumaguete and she works out frequently.  So its possible.

'Third world' or not, there is more than enough food to go around.

Always check out your prospective Filipina's mother, because your girl will gradually morph into whatever she looks like.

I'm lucky in that The Angry Midget (my wife) is a fitness nut.  High intensity resistance band workout every 2 - 3 days for about 30 mins and runs 7 - 10kms at least 3 times a week.  The result is it encourages me to join in so the effect is the same as you're after but the roles reversed.  Well not quite reversed in that I've maintained a certain level of fitness my entire life (military habits die hard) but she encourages me to go harder like any good workout partner does.

Ok, slightly on-topic.  A neighbor posted these pictures of a fitness instructor who was coming to Subic to hold classes.  I think she is well known and the class she was going to give was returning to fitness after pregnancy.

Yea or nay?  Is super skinny and fit your cup of tea?  If so, just leave these pictures lying around the house and maybe she will catch on.  I'm undecided.  It would be nice to have someone around to crack my walnuts.

Hopefully the girlfriend part has been going on a good few years and you've spent a lot of time together. If you've only spent a few weeks together here and there her guard maybe slipping.

Sad to say but from experience Filipinos can be a bundle of fun chatting online and spending small holidays with but once the excitement of travelling around wears off and you decide to stay put in a non touristy area like her home for a bit they bury their heads in their phones and just want to sit on their butts and keep out of the sun.

I just had one such girl visit me and my partner for a few days last month. I'd known her a few years as a friend but had only spent a few hours here and there in her company. She was bubbly, lively and very chatty until she had spent 8hrs here then it was face in the phone, eat and sit. All offers of going out and about sightseeing was met with " I'm tired."  Even my partner was pissed off with her.

If you've spent a long time together and gentle persuasion doesn't work then join a gym and drop a hint that you're impressed how fit and sexy looking some of the women there are.  She'll be in her gym gear and down the gym infront of you. Jealousy is a great motivator.

Ummm..... perhaps you are not aware that in the Philippines being fat means you are rich. So being fat is not as likely to be perceived negatively there.

Filipinos eat 5 meals a day.  Have you seen the size of those mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks?  For office and business workers, add all the cupcakes when someone is celebrating a birthday.  There is always someone celebrating.  Then her friends and fellow workers try to make extra money by selling food as a side hustle.  With Christmas fast approaching, you have all those parties whose main objective is to eat while the host admonished the guests, "You are too thin.  Eat!"
