mountainside Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 49 million PHP tourism campaign. https://www.philstar.com/headlines/2023/06/29/2277520/love-philippines-tourism-campaign-costs-p49-million-dot-chief Slick YouTube vido. That apparently contains stock footage from other countries, including Indonesia,Thailand, Dubai, and Switzerland. DOT has launched an investigation. "The Department of Tourism (DOT) ordered an investigation on Saturday into allegations that the ''Love the Philippines'' campaign video aimed at attracting international visitors to the country contained stock footage. Blogger Sass Sasot alleged in a Facebook post that the tourism video used several stock video clips from Storyblocks, a subscription-based stock footage website, that were not shot in the Philippines. Sasot said at least five scenes were shot in other countries: rice terraces (Bali, Indonesia); a fisherman throwing a net (Thailand); a passenger plane approaching the runway (Zurich, Switzerland); jumping dolphins (unspecified location but not in the Philippines); and a person driving a vehicle on sand dunes (Dubai, the United Arab Emirates). ''As one of the many other forthcoming components of the launch of the enhanced tourism campaign, the DOT’s contracted agency, DDB Philippines, prepared and published an audiovisual presentation [that] has recently been the subject of scrutiny on the alleged use of non-original shots in certain parts of the AVP,'' the department said in a statement." Possum Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Why am I not surprised? The slogan is also not exactly unique.
hk blues Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 I read something similar related to a UK rail company who used footage of a completely different part of the country in a promotional ad. Their 'explanation' was the footage was simply meant to invoke a desire to travel rather than travel within a specific area. Hmmmm. Long story short, this type of slapdash approach is not unique to the Philippines.

JJReyes Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 The AV is called an "advertising pitch" by the local office of an international advertising company. It is a way to solicit a new account with an initial budget of P50 million. The advertising agency is trying to show a potential new client what they can do. The Department of Tourism does not pay. Unfortunately, this ad agency used visitor destination materials from foreign locations. It was stupid. They are probably out of the competition, but no big deal. (From the P50 million fee, the ad agency receives 15% for services. 85% pays for production, media costs like radio, television and internet, and public relations services.) 1

According to the agency (DDB): "The AVP (audio-visual presentation) in question, uploaded by the agency on social media, was intended to be a mood video to excite internal stakeholders about the campaign." They sure got stakeholders excited. And international coverage of the excitement. "We sincerely hope this will not diminish the genuine love and appreciation the stakeholders and the public have been showing for the ‘Love the Philippines’ campaign." Well, I dunno . . .
