US man nabbed for drugs jumps to death in Manila– MANILA, Philippines – Philippine and U.S. authorities are investigating the death of a U.S. Navy officer who police say jumped from a second-floor staircase at the Manila airport after being arrested with a sachet of cocaine.Aviation police chief Pedro Desuasido said Lt. Cmdr. Scintar Buenviaje Mejia leaped to his death Monday while he was being escorted to the bathroom by a security guard.Desuasido said the 35-year-old Mejia, a Filipino-American citizen, died of severe head injuries. He was arrested a day earlier at an airport X-ray machine where Desuasido say security personnel discovered a plastic sachet in the pocket of Mejia's bag containing cocaine. Desuasio said Mejia denied the sachet was his and claimed he was set up.I just seen this on Yahoo news :photo-109:

"Desuasio said Mejia denied the sachet was his and claimed he was set up."Hmmm, next thing you know he will be saying he did not jump but was pushed. That is, he might have said that if he was still alive. It seems strange to me that all the security devices at American airports didn't notice the guy had 'a plastic sachet' in his pocket but the ever vigilant filipinos found it on him.photo-109.gif

The whole thing is strange from what I read in the news report, the American wanted to use the toilet but it was not available? they then decided to allow him to relieve himself out side in the carpark.Still in handcuffs,I wonder if they were going to hold it for him.

Many an uncooperative arrestee has opened doors with their heads or fallen down stairs while supposedly trying to escape, to cover up for the bruise marks from coercive questioning, so my guess is that they pushed him and are now trying to cover it up because he died. What man who is in the US military and in his right mind would commit suicide that way so soon into the process. Sounds like a set up to me and maybe we all need to look out for the same thing happening to us this time of year, when we refuse to give Christmas gifts. I avoid travel to or from the PHL this time of year because too many people seem to have their hands out for money and it might be even worse for a Filipino American.

Interesting update to this HERE so why would he kill himself over that? Can anyone spell murder. ohmy.gifMANILA, Philippines — A U.S. Navy officer jumped to his death at Manila's airport after he was arrested with what was thought to be cocaine, Philippine officials said Tuesday, but tests later showed the white powder wasn't an illegal drug.

My thoughts go out to Lt. Cmdr. Mejia’s family. I hope the US Navy and US Embassy demand and get a quick honest investigation as to why this Officer is now dead.

I would not be at all surprised if it turns out to be someone tried to force him to give them a Christmas gift because in the past I have had customs ask me for money numerous times in Manila but never in Cebu. Also if he did have the powder with him then I would not be surprised if it was Goody's Aspirin Powder which is common here in the US and used for pain or headaches but is probably not a good idea to carry to the Philippines unless in the original box, and even then I would have second thoughts of bringing any with me at all.My condolences to his family and I pray the govt gets to the bottom of what happened and those responsible are prosecuted if it turns out to be a murder.

American serviceman wrongly accused of smuggling out cocaineLatest headline from Manila Bulletin.http://www.mb.com.ph...ing-out-cocaine
The Philippine Center of Aviation Security at Manila International Airport (PCAS) has been known to be in cahoots of the flesh market traffic, illegal recruitment connections and lookouts for selected arrivals for highway robberies. I hope the US NCIS will find that PCAS is guilty of conspiracy in planting that white powdery substance in the victim's possession and also guilty in pushing the victim over the edge. The victim having large amount of US dollars may have motivated the PCAS to set him up in the hopes that a payoff would allow him to depart. The US government as well as other countries should black list MIA until further notice. I would rather fly into Mactan or Clark anyway.   Jake Edited by Jake

It seems the truth is now starting to come out. Quoted from THIS story so it is looking more and more like murder.

The source also noted that Mejia’s face had no wounds of injury marks, which somehow run contrary to witnesses claims that the victim was found lying face down. The source added the victims body bore several bruises.
