Why Would Anyone Want To Live In That God Forsaken Country

I have been working and traveling, and I just read the first page of new posts on this forum, a Italian gets stabbed by a Filipina, a Norwegian gets arrested and charged even though he has a strong alibi, people who have no manners, corruption up the ying yang, so why the hell would any of you wish to live in a country like that where you have no rights? Angel wants to go back for a visit but after reading some of these items and seeing reports in the news, I do not think I wish to set foot in a country run by criminals are untrained police personnel.

Guardian, You may need to read an old topic of Boss Man's here and you may understand why Filipino people return and stay or for those who have never left the Philippines! http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=1518

I feel that Jorge above comments were a little over the top, but at the same time what has happened to the Norwegian reminds me of keystone cops, so I have to wonder if there is any real justice in this country, and to tell you the truth, if it were not for my wife, then I think I too would have a hard time thinking about living here if the law is that foolish that it puts the words of kids and improper identifications over that of video tapes and adults sworn statements. It is my opinion that they should have never charged that fellow until they had concrete evidence, and if he is in fact not guilty, then they have done irreparable damage to this countries reputation and tourist industry with their actions. And even worse the real killer may have slipped away while they stopped investigating because they totally concentrated on this one suspect. Very sad IMHO.

When I was growing up, my old man told me that life is not fair. If I want fair I should go to the carnival type fair. I did not want to believe him as a young man but his words have been true for me.So l realized I could get screwed over anywhere in this world if I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. There are many problems living in the Philippines. There are many problems where I am from. They are just different problems.Take whatever precautions you can. Enjoy what is to be enjoyed. Avoid what is to be avoided. Use good judgement when deciding which is which. This country is not for everyone and that is a good thing. Imagine the population explosion if it was paradise for everyone.

I too get bummed out reading all the negative things that go on in Philippines, its very sad. Just remember for each bad thing there are hundreds of good.It seems to me many of the tragic circumstances that befall Foreigners are to do with poor choices on the Foreigners part. Sadly this is not always true but for the most part I think it is.My answer to your question would be.... the good outweighs the bad by far!

As I replied to Guardian's Topic on "My New Cebu Angel" here below:http://www.philippin...t=0I remarked, th_thholysheep.gifYou may not realize it now, but you may eat you words, Why Would Anyone Want To Live In That God Forsaken Country? later when it comes time for you to retire and eventually end up living in the Philippines, because your wife will twist your arm into it! So, mark my words! mocking.gif

Before my first trip to the Philippines, the interent was practically non existent and I only knew one Filipina to talk to and she wouldn't be saying anytthing bad anyway because she wanted us to go to the Philippines so that my friend would marry her sister. So no opportunity to get others thoughts on our trip. Our only preparation for the Philippines was watching the movie "Filipina Dream Girls" about a bunch of british men who go to the Philippines to find brides and watching my friend' s wedding video. So, we arrived thinking the Philippines was perfectly safe and as it happened, NOTHING on our trip caused us to think otherwise. We had a great time! It was only afterwards when we got back to Australia and our group of friends with connections to the Philippines widened that we received all the dire warnings about the Philippines. Don’t go here! Don’t go there! Don’t do this! Don’t do that!I was left wondering how we survived to tell the tale without being stabbed, shot, mugged and kidnapped and all at the same time! Now with internet, if I was making a trip for the first time, I wouldn't go either, after reading all the messages on the forums I post on.However, I now know different!I have been living in or regularly visiting the Philippines for 16 years. I was married to a Filipina.I have been involved with several building projects.I have travelled a lot in the Philippines. I walk around alone night or day in even the most so called sordid or unsafe places.I have been involved with multiple businesses such as piggery, carabao for rent, multicab operating as a jeepney, sari sari store, furniture business, tourism business where i was a tour guide in Cebu City. I am presently involved in pay day lending as part of a consortium of investors, am a partner in a very small karaoke bar and a barbecue stand with my girlfriend.Nothing bad has ever happened to me!The one time where I was involved with the police and I could have been scammed out of money, all the police said was......can't you work it out for yourself!Regards; Jim Sibbick

Unsafe? Bad things happen? Trouble for foreigners?I have been traveling yearly to the Philippines since 2003. Our stays are usually seven to eight weeks. My wife's family always seem to think we need an escort where ever we go. The first several trips I would allow them to meet us when we arrived and also travel with us. After talking with family members and also extended family members from other regions and provinces, I learned they all seem a little paranoid about my safety and even their own. They always seem nervous about traveling and the unknown. Where I am the adventurous type. I deal with any problem when it arrives. No worry for me. Now I even travel alone and walk around many towns by myself day or night. Never once have I ever felt in any danger or even the slightest threat to my safety or property. I have asked all them if any of them ever had been assaulted or robbed and no one ever had. None of then even personally knew anyone that ever had been assaulted or robbed. The only real evidence any one had was what they heard from the news and hearsay. My travels have taken me from Manila to Bohol and many places in between. I have met many foreigners that live in the Philippines while traveling and one question I always ask them, "Have you ever been in a situation where you have felt uneasy or unsafe?" No one has ever answered yes! I do have one friend who has been living in PI for over seven years and he claims to have a friend who was walking "somewhere" in Manila and had a cheap Timex watch taken from his arm.I have had some dealings with the PNP and so far, my experiences have been positive. But then I do make an effort to go to the local police office and meet the chief (with a small gift) and introduce myself. I've always had a warm welcome. I'm just hoping that these introductions will be of some benefit (maybe) in the future.danny

This topic would be fitting if it was during the Marcos regime of Dictatorship of 20 years in the early 70s, 80s and early 90s! It was truly scary back then, people were getting murdered left and right and thrown in jail just on suspicion alone and by just bad mouthing the Marcos regime out loud or on TV or in the newspapers! It was the age of "duck and cover" to avoid getting hit by stray bullets or get caught in the middle of a cross fire! The Philippines has come a long way, but still with all it's corruption to no end!th_thholysheep.gif
