An Online Dating Cautionary Tale

You can't determine if the other side of the communication link is a man, woman or something else. Even with all the warnings about not to send money, there is a sucker born every minute.
Webcams have made it harder to lie about sex and looks  (Lips move need to suit the talk).

Yes. Some go on sending "Nigeria letters", so I suppose some still pay even them...  :)

They are not all like that. My Nigerian girlfriend wants to deposit $37,000,000 to my account. The only reason I have not sent her my account particulars is because I don't want her to think I can be bought for money. :hystery:

Must be hard for the Nigerians, who are true...  :)

Hey Bruce,

If my understanding of reading between your lines is correct, I think Thomas' remarks above does not

elude to any derogatory feelings regarding race or color.  Taken in context, I interpret his comeback

to Robert K was -- who is the better scammer: a Nigerian or Robert K......he, he.

Have a nice internet day guys -- Jake

Race? No Jake, 419 scammers! Finding a 'true' one is very difficult. Pure..... As the driven snow! (In Manila!) Scammers cross all racial boundaries. The Nigerians have raised scams  to the level of being registered as part of the Gross National Product inventory list! :hystery:

Thomas was just giving that 0.01% of the scammer population the benefit of the doubt. As for internet dating I believe that the major sites of the past had warnings about both Nigeria and Shri Lanka scammers because the vast majority of complaints revolved around those two countries.

online dating is just a numbers game. The more you talk to and meet up with, the more success you will have. But spammers on those dating sites can be very annoying and de-motivating.

I encountered a lot of nice women online, several scammers also. My greatest problem was getting anyone to hold a meaningful conversation. I would write hundreds and thousands of words and get that's nice, yes and ok in return. They would basically have a condensed version of the story of my life and I would know that they like spaghetti. If you never get answers but lots of questions, I recommend you keep going until you find one that does say something, the others, scammer or not, are wasting your time, unless you do not care to talk to them anyway. I'm sure you can find a hot one who talks too, even if they are not talking now, they will probably start talking just a few years down the road so you might want to know what they are going to say before that time comes.

Jake before you start into me about looking sexy and wanting to see some pics of me, let me remind you, I was on his PC. I do not have that function or those pics to send you......., so stop harassing me to connect on messenger and wanting to see me!!!!!

I just feel so abused and I know you only want me for my body!!!!!!

Candy (ex Papa Carl)

Damn! You are too fast!

Candy! I thought you were dead.. Oh My GAWD I am so glad I found you..... is how I was going to start out......

Just as a note to follow up on this subject, saw this in the Philippines news and noticed the names of the people arrested. Note that this is a "Dating Scam" and that the majority of those arrested are men!

Also good to note that at least on this occasion, no Foreigners were listed as arrested, and the crime was committed by Filipinos!

So maybe things are equaling out in regards to the reporting on this type of crime.

Online dating, cyber pornography

In Cabanatuan City on August 9, police operatives conducted separate raids on call centers One Circle Business Process Outsource and Webkey for alleged online dating and cyber pornography.

At least 30 Filipino suspects were arrested. Police identified the suspects as: Mark Elvin Angeles, Julius Ceasar Cara, Ross Flores, Mario Tuddao, Redentor Ingal, Jerbie Cunanan, Jeffrey Ferrer, Vergelio Torres, Haxel Max Dizon, James Michael Lising, Leonard Henrick Solitario, Gerome Angeles, Keven Jeffrey Bayaua, Ederson Baby Esguerra, Rolando Carpio, Mary Joy Castillo, Paul Andrew Aquino, Jerico Carpio, Ricky Ibañez, Marvin Hipolito, Raymond Ingalla, Arnold Ringor, Juanito Carpio, Christopher Gonzales, Fernando Ramos, Clester Carpio, Arjay Millano, Edwin Santiago, Raymond Abuyan, and Jan Luigi Velasquez.

"The raided commercial establishments are involved in on-line fraud where call agents introduced themselves using female aliases and entice their foreign clients to register in a dating site. Once registered, foreign clients could select from services offered which includes pornographic videos, a live cam-to-cam sex and live chatting," said Sosa.

Sosa said suspects will face charges for violation of Article 201, Revised Penal Code (Immoral Doctrines, Obscene Publications and Exhibitions and Indecent Shows).

Seized from the two raids were several computers and internet equipment.  Amanda Fernandez/BM, GMA News

I am always amazed to what extent the asian online dating scams go to collect a few dollars.
