I asume I will not bring my bike when I move anyway,

but I found several suprisingly cheap used mountain bikes in adds. 800-1500 p  !!!

How come??? Are they stolen, crap or just low demand, because of few Filipinos want to exersise?  :)   (But I know there are bike trails.) Has anyone of you tested such cheap mountain bikes?

There is a very strong recreational bicycling community in the Philippines. Capital goods such as bicycles maintain their value better than in western countries. I expect these are just teaser ads or absolute junk.

Can you provide a link?  If they were any good I'd buy one, but I won't be expecting them to be any good at that price.  Even the cheap surplus junk that many vendors try to dump here is 10 times that price or higher for anything I would ride.

I did buy a child size 10 speed for the gf (she is small) for 3100 pesos but it started falling apart the first day.  Fortunately she does not use it much so was not expecting much.  I thought the bikes here were very expensive compared to used bikes I would buy at yard sales back home.

I race MTB's.

Those would be old steel frame bikes from China, maybe rusted or parts missing. Smaller sizes. Psosibly acquired as junk or scrap metal and cleaned up

An entry level MTB could be bought new for 15-16,000 pesos. My first bike cost that but it required a front air suspension , 8000 extra and wider tires 2.2 cms another 2000 extra, to actually ride safely on the harder trails.  A proper "pro" or advanced level bike with 29 in light weight alloy wheels costs, 50, 000 and up.  My 2nd bike was used and I got it 53k race ready.

Mountain biking is a boom sport up here in the north,  I ride with a club group of 20 every Saturday. I'm just back from 8 weeks rehab, my Fx Humerus so not yet allowed off road. Sunday wil go out alone, sure to meet people along the way.

My triathlon bike, 150 k bike with carbon wheels, titanium frame hangs in the shed. Wish I could sell it but no takers as similar or better bikes now come from China for around 50-60k.

The cheap bikes I've found here are fairly poor quality Chinese bikes. There is one shop near me that sells second hand reconditioned Japanese bikes for around 2000-2500p. Will be having a serious look at them later today

For instance this one. 1450p  Claim to have no ssues except one flat tire. http://olx.ph/item/mountain-bike-ID6MGgr.html#149ae75cca      You can find several there just by a search at "Mountain bike" and sort by price. Sortable by place too, so you can find one close.

Looks like a normal teen ager 10 speed but quite serviceable at that price.  Unfortunately it is not near me.  The closest on to my house is listed at 5500 on that site and looks like JPs bike . . .  veeeerrrry interesting  . . . Jack?  R U still riding?   :hystery:

Yes. Race quality. I just need one with so low gears, so I can bike at "normal" grave/dirt roads/paths using almost only one leg, so I can be satisfied with a bike, which you specialists have used and SKIPED   :)

(I had a still GOOD functioning 40+ years old good brand steel framed RACER, which was good enough for me, but I gave it to my nephew when I emptied my house preparing to move to Phils.)

Cheap price + seller can't fix flat tire might equal stolen.

Also, there are a lot of counterfeit new bikes here.  They look nice but I doubt that they will last.
